This invention relates to adjustable collapsible forms used in concrete construction, and in particular collapsible forms that are readily set up and taken down after use and that are readily adjustable to form walls, floors, and the like in buildings of different dimensions.

The purpose of this invention is to provide means in a form, channel-shaped in cross section whereby mounting members extended from the ends of units of the form are adjustably mounted in the channel-shaped units.

Various types of connections have been provided in the ends of wall and floor forms for use in concrete construction but where the ends of the forms are adjustably connected it is difficult, to frame connecting elements into spaces at the ends of the forms and at the same time provide a smooth wall surface all of the way to the connecting wall or joint. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates forming walls and deck or floor forms, channel-shaped in cross section and providing telescoping or slidably mounted tongues in the ends of the sections whereby the tongues are extended to correspond with the length or width of a floor or wall and secured in position by nails extended through openings in the forms and wood strips in the tongues and in which the areas between the ends of the sections and ends of the tongues are filled in with wood strips to provide a continuous wall surface.

The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide collapsible forms for concrete construction in which tongues are adjustably mounted in the ends of units of the forms for extending the length thereof.

Another object of the invention is to provide means for forming wall forms with tongues adjustably mounted in the ends of sections thereof in which the tongues are held by nails to facilitate setting up and taking down the forms.

A further object of the invention is to provide adjustable elements in the ends of units of deck and wall forms in which the forms are of simple and economical construction.

With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies deck and wall forms provided in units with each unit including a facing plate reinforced at the center and also at the edges with structural shapes, with spaced box-like members positioned in the ends and with tongues having wood strips therein adjustably mounted between the said box-like members.

Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the improved deck and'wall form of this invention includes*aj plurality-⁷of units; each having a face plate 10 with T-shaped intermediate reinforcing bars i I, L-shapcd. reinforcing bars and 13 at the edges and box-like members, 14 and 15 at one end and on one side oftheba-r II, with similar members 16 and 17 on the Opposite side of the bar II and; similar: members; 18 and 19 on one side of the bar I t at the opposite end and 20 and 21 on* the opposite side of the said bar. . .

The telescoping or extensible tongues are similar and the same reference numerals are used for the tongues throughout the drawing. Thja boxlike members are spaced providing slots 22 and the tongues are positioned in these slots,,as illustrated in Figure 2. . ,.

The. tongues are shown in detail m Figures 4, 5, 8 and 9 and, as shown in Figures 8 and 9 the tongues are provided with base sections 23 having extending webs 24 and 25 at the sides and flanges 26 and 2.7 at the. ends, of the webs are positioned perpendicularly. to the longitudinal center of the tongue. The. flanges are provided with bolt holes 28 and 2'9, respectively and holes for nnik and the like as indicated by the numeral 33 are .positioned above and below the bolt holes.

The side walls or webs -24 and 25 of the tongues are also provided with spaced nail Holes 31 and 32 respectively and similar holes are provided in’the base 23 as indicated by, the numeral 33. Each, tongue, is. provided, with a wood strip 34 to facilitate retaining nails therein..

With the. parts as shown, particularly, in Figures· 4 and -5 the tongue is. positioned between box-like members 16.and 17 and secured in position by nails 35 which are driven through elongated openings 36, in the member 16 and 37 in the member 1.7 whereby the tongue is rigidly secured in position between the box-like memθΑκ illustrated, in Figures 2 and 4 the upper edges of. the tongues are spaced from the outer surfaces of the face, plate ID and where the tongues extend beyond, the ends of the sections this area, is filled, with strips 38 that are secured in position by nails 39 which, extend into- -the strips 7J4. . a

The flanges 26 and 27 on the extended ends oi the tongues.are secured to side forms, as indicated by the numeral 40, by nails 41. The ends of the sections may also be supported by beams 42, as shown in Figure 4. ,

The box-like members in- the. ends of the sections of the' form are. also used for -holding. ends of sections together intermediate of the length of a wall, floor, or. the.like and, as illustrated in Figure 10,, rods 43-are inserted through openings 44 in the ends of the box-like sections with the form· sections positioned end to end. These connections are also illustrated in Figures 11. and 12.

The units of the forms may also, be provided with openings in the reinforcing. bars_ 12. and 13 for pins 45 as shown Jn Figure 1. and similar openings may be provided in the face, plates·.ID, as- indicated by the; numeral 46.

In the design illustrated in Figures 13 to 17, inclusive, the forms include face plates 47 which are provided with intermediate T-shaped reinforcing bars 48 and L-shaped bars 49 and 50 at the edges and U-shaped tongues 51 having flanges 52 and 53 on the ends of side walls 54 and 55, respectively, are slidably mounted m channel shaped sections 56 having side walls 57 and 58; which are mounted: on the. under surfacesofthe if ace plates‘4Ϊ.

The U-shape channels in which the tongues are slidably held are secured in position between the bars. 48 and the bars 49 and 50 and by ribs 5S -and 60 at¹ the outer ends, and 61 and 62, at the inner ends. The ribs and channel-shaped members are secured in position on the under surfaces of the face plates by welding, or other suitable means.

The. tongues 51 are provided with elongated slots 63 in the lower surfaces through which nails 64 may be driven into wood strips 65 positioned in the tongues, and the side walls 54 and 55 may also.be provided, with nail holes 6_6through which nails driven through corresponding nail holes 67 in the side walls 57 and 58 of the U -shape members 56 extend. With these openings aligned nails. 68, as shown in Figures 13 and 15 may be driven through the.tongues.. . ...

It will be understood that modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
