^{heel plate 12} doses the butt opening of the cavity or recess 11 and is swingably held in position so that it may be swung to one side to permit access to the storage cavity. To this end I pro- , vide a metal plate 14 which conforms in shape ' to the gum stock and is provided with an openAm-A°p^{lnCldmg Wlth th}® ^butt opening into the storage space or cavity 11. This metal nlafe is secured to the butt of the stock by any suitable ^mThYni^S?^yi?^aAA^{ining scre}ws 15 or the like.

The plate 14 at its upper end is provided with an mwiirdly extending semispherical socket 16 Yur nf^PtA^{JeCtS mt}A.^{a recess 17} formed in the butt of the gun. This socket is adapted to receive a semispherical member 18 which surrounds ⁴⁵a ^pm 19 projecting into the recess 17 and an®^b°i^enn ^{0 the heel plat}® ^{12 by being} headed over £^{s at 20}&gt; ^{a remforcing plate 2} ‘ that is interposed between the cushion 13 and the heel plate 12 A nos^A»^PIA^{g 22 biases the} heel plate 12 in closed position, this spring being interposed between the toner surface of the semispherical socket 6 and ^a ™^lal; ^{23 secured} on the end of the pin 19
