Claim. (CI. 248—311)
The present invention relates to a dispensing holder for liquid containers, and more particularly to such a device having a portion movable to put the container in dispensing position for dispensing liquid, therefrom, such as glycerin used in hand printing.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a device for dispensing glycerin for use in hand feeding of printing presses.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device for securely holding a container of liquid, such as glycerin, wherein the device may be easily pivoted to a dispensing position, and then automatically resume an upright position.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device for dispensing a liquid, such as glycerin, to the press operator at the will of the latter, and wherein the device may be conveniently pivoted to a position under the feedboard of the press when the device is not in use.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the following detailed description of the invention, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the dispensing device mounted on the under side of a feedboard of a conventional printing press, and showing a container positioned in the device;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the device shown in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a view in cross-section, taken on the line 3—3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a view in cross-section, taken on line 4—4 of Figure 3.
In the drawing, wherein like reference numerals refer to the same parts, the illustrated dispensing holder includes an angle bracket 5 whose arms have slightly out-turned ends. One arm 8 of the bracket 5 is provided at approximately its midpoint with an aperture I which is suitably aligned beneath an aperture 8 in a horizontallydisposed feedboard 9 of a conventional printing press. The arm 6 of the bracket 5 is attached to the feedboard by means of a bolt 10 which passes through the aligned apertures 7 and 8 and a nut 11, the bolt and nut suitably selected to permit a free pivotal movement of the bracket in a horizontal plane, as shown by the arrows in Figure 2. The other arm 12 of the bracket 5 depends vertically and is provided with an aperture 13 adjacent its lower end.
A holder element 14, adapted to receive a dispensing container 15 of fluid, such as glycerin, is carried by the arm 12 of the bracket 5. The holder element, which is of substantially U -shaped cross-section, comprises a back plate portion 16, a bottom plate portion 17, and a front plate portion 18 which is in parallel, spaced relation with ® respect to the back plate portion. The upper part of the back plate portion 16 is provided with an aperture 19 which is positioned in alignment with the aperture 13 of the arm 12 of the support angle 5. A rivet 20 extending through the aligned 10 apertures 13 and 19 pivotally connects the back plate portion 16 to the arm 12, permitting a vertical pivotal movement of the holder element on a horizontal axis, as shown by arrows in Figure 1.
The holder element 14 is also provided with a 15 pair of resilient ears 21 adapted to firmly clasp the container 15 and which are secured to the side edges of the back plate portion 16 at approximately the center thereof. The ears 2i extend perpendicularly outwardly from the back plate 20 portion 16, and are disposed in parallel, spaced relation, each arm having an inwardly-turned end 22 which terminates adjacent the front plate portion 18 of the holder element. The front plate portion Γ8 of the holder element is turned slightly outwardly adjacent the top edge 23 thereof to facilitate the introduction of the container into the holder element.
In operation, during feeding operations, the container 15 of fluid, such as glycerin, is posi30 tioned within the holder element 14. When the fluid is needed, the operator of the printing press places his index finger on the top of the container i 5 and tips the holder element 14 and container 15 to a horizontal position, whereby a quantity 35 of the fluid is discharged on his finger tip. The operator then releases the container 15 and holder element 14, and the latter automatically resumes a vertical position, so that the container is upright. If desired, the operator may then pivot 40 the entire device to a retracted position beneath the feedboard 9 of the press, until further needed, by swinging the support angle 5 about the bolt 10.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essen45 tial characteristics thereof. The present embodiment is, therefore, considered to be in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claim rather than by the foregoing description.
