FOLDING LEG SUPPORT FOR COMBINATION COMMODE AND HIGH CHAIR

Claim.

This invention relates to folding and removable leg construction for combination commodes and high chairs, the primary object of the invention being to provide removable and foldable leg sections which when disconnected from the body portion of the combined commode and high chair, may be folded into a small and compact article for storing.

Another object of the invention is to provide a leg structure in which, when positioned to support an article such as a commode or high chair, the legs will be held securely against movement and against collapsing.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, 15 the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts' without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

Referring to the drawing

Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a combined commode and high chair supported by a leg structure, constructed in accordance with the present invention.

Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmental view partly in section illustrating the connection between a leg and the body portion of the device supported.

Fig. 3 is an enlarged elevational view illustrating the drop means between the pivotally connected sections of the brace bars that brace the legs in their extended or supporting positions.

Fig. 4 is a plan view of the connection.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 indicates the body portion of a combined commode and high chair, the reference character 6 indicating the tray of the high chair.

As clearly shown by Fig. 2 of the drawing, the body portion 5 is constructed to provide bars 7 that are secured within the side members of the body portion at a point adjacent to the bottom thereof. These bars 7 are formed with open ings which extend at oblique angles with respect 45 to the sides of the body portion.

The leg assembly includes four leg members which are formed with reduced ends 9 providing shoulders ID spaced from the free ends of the reduced portions 9, the lengths of the reduced portions 9 being such that when they are driven into the openings of the bars 7, the shoulders 10 will contact with the bottom of the body portion to support the weight thereof.

Brace blocks I ί are secured to the leg mem- 55 bers 8 adjacent to the upper ends thereof, and (CI. 155—196) are arranged so that they will engage the bottom of the body portion, as shown by Fig. 2, providing an adequate support for the weight supported in the body portion 5.

Pivoted bars 12 are connected with the leg members, the bars 12 between each pair of leg members being pivotally connected at their inner ends by means of the rivets 13, portions of the bars 12 being stamped from the bars 12 and 10 pressed outwardly so that they provide stops 14 that are brought into contact with each other when the pivoted bars 12 are extended to their active bracing positions as shown by Fig. 1 of the drawing.

From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a leg assembly for a combination commode and high chair, which may be readily and easily positioned or removed and folded into a 20 small and compact article for storage or transportation.

With a device such as shown and described, it will be obvious that the combination commode and high chair may be conveniently carried from 25 place to place with little effort.
