Claims.

My invention relates to hygienic syringes, particularly douche Syringes Used by women for cleansing the vaginal tract, 'and its objects are, to provide a more hygienic and satisfactory device than has heretofore been used for this purpose: ‘to -dispense with the’ usual soft bulb of rubber -or rubberlike material acting both as a source of liquid supply and -discharge receptacle, and in -place thereof -to supply cleaning syringe iheahs'effecting -a complete separation of the incoming from the OtitflOWihg -fluids, while maintaining a constant flow of fresh fluid to the parts to be cleansed : to provide a more thorough-means for Sepafatihg, -spraying, flushing and -cleansing all of -the folds of the Vagina, whether the user of the syringe be standing up, sitting down or in a prone position·, ^:to provide -a self adjusting shield for preventing the escape of the fluids while passing -into· or out pf the vagina when the syringe is in operation Whatever may be the position assumed by said «Ser; to Supply a feminine douche syringe for the use of female patients in hospitals resulting in their gredterfiomfort.-hnd ^:in-a great saving of time and expense ih the attendance of nurses, eliminating the Use of bed pans and sanitary pads; to allow the use of readily separable plastic parts throughout ih place pf rubberlike materials, With resulting greater cleanliness and economy; to render all parts of my said device readily accessible for inspection, adjustment; replacement, restoration Of repair, and generally to provide a device ’Which is economical-of construction, efficient in action and of prolonged -life and‘durability. My invention further -consists of Other novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts, illustrated in the drawing and hereinafter more specifically described and claimed.

In the feminine douche syringe now in common use, 'there is employed a soft synthetic rubber bulb holding about one half pint of liquid, to which is secured a hard rubber nozzle shaped to follow the curve Of the vagina When introduced therein. A soft rubber conical shield sliding upon the shank Of said nozzle and closely fitting the-same, serves to prevent leakage of said liquid -from the -Vaginal tradt, in Which the liquid is held prior to being returned to the said bulb. Cleansing of said tract is accomplished by introducing said nozzle therein and by squeezing the said bulb to release the contents thereof and to spray and cleanse the folds of the vagina. Upon releasing the pressure of said bulb, the said fluid so used is by suction returned therein, and the (Cl. 128—241) syringe is thereupon 'removed' and its 'contents discharged into the- toilet ’bowl or other receptacle. and the syringe is replenished With Clean liquid, and the Cleansinf; 'process Is-repeated'’to the‘extent ’necessary 'or-'desired. ordinarily, -the said syringe is T&amp;bi'^CbnVbiflefrtly used while the User ’is ’upon- the ttiiiet ’Seat; btit -Where 'used upon a patient while-’ih bed by a nurse in a hospital', a Ped-pan ^rand sanitary -pads are re'quired, a time ih- consuming'and e^pensive'pfO'cedttre. All'of'these disadvantages, however, -are overcome ih'ffiy improved form-of syringe, in which, through a novel a'fra-hgeiii'efit df pipes -arid passageways a constant stream of fluid is made to flow Upon 'and iU- away from-’the p'arts to ’be-cleansed. No one, so far as i-am-aWare, prior to’ffiy invention has ever employed a form of syringe, Whereby a continuous amount of ‘clea’n liquid could be Supplied for cleansing the- vaginal tract ‘and thereafter 29 when so used be-cOnducted-away ’therefrom -without contact with the ‘clean incoming stream.

Referring to the drawing, the syringe -there shown, is composed Of the base 5, nozzle pipes 40 ®&gt; 7, 4 and 8. cap 4-0_; Shield 44; casing 12, and inlet 'and (OutletOOhduits 4-3 ’fend- M; all of which parts :areipref er ably of'-plastic or other suitable material.

Preferably, the base 5 is in the general form 45 of a truncated dime, having a Central ’passage*· way 22/and'passageWays :6tt; Iftpefeiandigd/quad^ rantly arranged abotit the same, and aligned respectively with sockets, formed ’Within the tampered end; ’5a Of Paid; base. Mounted upon the inner portion of said base 5 is the casing 12, having the annular chamber 12a communicating with the passageways Sa, Ία, 8a and 9a, and having partitioned from said chamber and centrally extending therethrough, the tunnel 12b. Preferably for connecting and securing the said casing to the said base, I construct the inner end of said base with the annular recess IS and shoulder 16, within which is seated the annular inwardly projecting rim 17 of the said casing, an O-ring ί 8 being installed and compressed within the annular groove i 9 in said inner end providing sealing means for said connection. Leading into the side of said casing and integral therewith is the inlet member 29, having the enlarged tip 21, to which may be attached the end of the elastic hose 13 or other conduit leading from a water faucet or other source of liquid supply.

Also, the inner end of said base 5 is constructed with an outlet member, through which continues and extends the central passageway 22 of said base, and the end of which member is shaped to form the enlarged spout 23, to which is attached the end of the elastic hose 14 or other conduit leading to the place of discharge. As shown, the said outlet member is preferably formed with the annular recess 24 and shoulder 25, an Oring 18 compressed within the annular groove 28 providing sealing means for this connection.

Preferably installed within the chamber 12a and shaped to fit and to conform to the walls thereof is the bag 29 of permeable fabric or other porous material, containing loosely packed antiseptic or contraceptive crystals, grains or substances of like character 39, and allowing the ready passage therethrough of water or other fluids coming from the inlet conduit 13.

In operating my improved device, the inlet conduit 13 is first connected with a water faucet or other source of fluid supply, and the outlet conduit is connected with the toilet seat, chamber vessel or other means of refuse disposal, then upon the nozzle pipes being inserted within the vaginal tract and the shield adjusted, the water or fluid supply is turned on, whereupon by reason of the quadrilateral arrangement of the said pipes and the diagonal arrangement of the orifices A and B, the cleansing fluid coming from the conduit 13 through the contents 39 of the bag 29 is sprayed or impacted upon all of the parts of the said tract, and thereupon the fluid so used is discharged out of the syringe through the conduit

14. Thus there is a constant flow of fresh cleansing fluid into said tract, and discharge of used fluid therefrom, the continuance of which results in the thorough cleansing of all parts thereof.

Preferably the nozzle pipes 6, 7, 8 and 9 are of plastic material, so as to permit the warming and bending thereof to conform to the shape of the vaginal tract. Also, the shield 11 is of preferably plastic material and self adjusting in character so as to make close contact with the outside parts of the body adjacent to the vaginal tract and to prevent escape of the fluid when passing into or out of said tract whatever may be the position of the user of the syringe while it is being employed to cleanse said tract.

My invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof. The present em4 bodiments, as above set forth are therefor to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, the scope of my invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all changes which may come within the meaning and range of equivalency of the claims are therefore intended to be embraced therein.
