FLASHLIGHT HANDLE FOR LADIES’

HANDBAGS

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in an interchangeable flashlight handle for ladies’ handbags.

More particularly, the 'invention proposes the mounting of’a flashlight along the top of a lady’s 5 handbag or-similar object to form a handle by which it may be conveniently carried. The advantage of the construction resides in the fact that the flashlight may thus fee carried and used when needed, For example during war time, in 10 blackouts, the flashlight may be used to guide one through blackout areas. In peace time, the flashlight may be used on dark country roads, or other dark places;

More specifically,. the invention contemplates 15 a novel construction for mounting the flashlight in position on the handbag: in such a way that it may be used as a handle for the handbag, while at the same time not interfering with the normal opening and closing of the bag. 20

Another object of the invention is the construction of a device as mentioned which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the interchangeable flashlight handle for ladies’ handbags includes a flashlight 1 0 of standard design and construction mounted along the top of a handbag i I in a manner to form a han- 55 die toy which the handbag may be carried. The flashlight 10 is releasably mounted so that it may toe removed when desired. This removable construction is obtained by the provision of a pair of straps 12 and 13 mounted on the top portion of the handbag, and arranged in such a way as to releasably hold the flashlight. More specifically, the flashlight 10 is provided with eye members 14 through which the straps 12 and 13 pass. These eye members 14 are mounted upon the sides of the flashlight 40 near the end portions.

Preferably, the flashlight 10 should be ornamental so as to enhance the appearance of the handbag; For-example,- the central barrel portion 15 of the flashlight may be metal, while the flared end portions lucite, or other decorative material. Other designs and constructions may also be used.

The strap 13 is disposed upon one side of the handbag 13 and is preferably, permanently secured thereon by stitches 17. The strap 12 is provided with a snap fastener element 18 which is cooperative with a complementary fastener element 19 mounted on the side of the handbag remote from strap 13. With this construction it is-possible to open the fastener 18,19 to release one end of the flashlight and then the handbag is free to be opened in the usual way. When desired the stitches 17 may be ripped open to completely remove the flashlight. The strap 13 may be resewed in position when it is again desired to mount the flashlight on the handbag.

: In. Figs. 3 and 4 a modified construction has been disclosed Which distinguishes from the prior form in the fact that straps 12’ and 13' are Used for releasably supporting the flashlight IS. These straps are preferably construction of elastic material to grip and hold the flashlight body. They are engaged around the body of the flashlight. The strap ! 2 ' is provided with a buckle 20 mounted near the back end thereof and cooperative with openings 21 formed in the front end. The strap 13' is secured by stitches 22 to one side of the handbag 11. The strap 12' is of a construction very similar to the strap 13'. However, the only distinction resides in the way it is mounted on the handbag 11. It is provided with a snap fastener element 23 cooperative with a complementary snap fastener element 24 mounted on the side of the handbag 11 which is remote from the strap 13'. The strap 12' is also provided with a buckle 20 and provided with the openings 2l at the front end thereof.

The straps 12' and 13' may be opened when it is desired to release the flashlight 10. These

2,3 straps may be used to hold flashlights of different diameters. The snap fastener 23, 24, may be opened when it is desired to open the handbag 11 wtihout completely removing the flashlight 10.

It should be clearly noted that the handbag I i may be conveniently carried by using the flashlight 10 as a handle. The flashlight may be used in the usual way whenever desired.

It is to be . understood that the flashlight may be attached to and detached from the handbag by the use of any suitable fastening means, such as snap fasteners, buckles, etc.

In the form of the invention disclosed in Figs. 5 and 6, a lady’s handbag 30 is provided with a conventionally constructed flashlight 31 which acts as a handle. The flashlight 31 is formed with loop portions 32 at positions adjacent theend portions thereof.

Straps 33 have their inner ends securely attached to one face, such as the inside face of one wall of the.handbag 38, Stitches 34 are engaged through the end of .the straps 33 and wall of the handbag 30 for securely mounting the ends of the .straps in .position. The free ends of the straps 33 are extended upwards through cutouts or openings 35 formed at. spaced positions in the frame 35 of the handbag 3Θ. These free ends of the straps 33 are. then passed through the loop portions 32 and are projected downwards along the outside of the handbag. 30,

Means is provided for releasably attaching the ends of the straps S3 to the outside of the handbag. This means is characterized by snap fasteners 3.7 mounted on the free ends of the straps 33 and. which engage complementary snap fasteners 38 mounted on the outside face of the handbag 30.

The construction is such that the flashlight 3i may be mounted-upon the handbag 30 and riot interfere with normal opening and closing thereof. However, it is possible to dismount the flashlight, by separating the snap fasteners 37 and 38, permitting the. free ends of . the straps to be drawn through the eyelets 32. The straps may then be moved to an inoperative position within the interior of the .handbag by drawing the free ends .of the straps through the openings 35. It is to be understood that the openings 35 are to be of a size sufficiently large to permit the ends of the straps 33 including the snap fasteners 37 to be drawn therethrough.

In Fig. 7, the straps 33' are shown to be secured to the outer side of the handbag II, by stitches 34' and the corresponding snap fasteners 37' and 38' are shown to be located within the handbag. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to the previous form.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise j constructions herein disclosed and. the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
