Claims.

/ This invention relates , to laundry appliances, particularly to such as are used in steam laundries where a large quantity of miscellaneous goods are processed, and more specifically to devices for bundling parcels of goods when in a moist condition.

It is well known , that few city dwellers have the conveniences and facilities—or the disposition—to undertake heavy family washes and therefore prefer to patronize establishments where such services are satisfactorily performed oil a large scale.

It has been found decidedly economical, in most instances, for such large laundries to do the cleansing, washing and purifying, returning the goods in a . semi-dry condition ready for finish drying, smoothing, folding and subsequent services and this applies to different fabrics, white or colored.

It is an object of the invention to provide a mechanism adapted for simultaneous use, preferably by two or more operatives, in which the goods of each batch are maintained separate from another, encased in a bag, preferably a netted fabric, suspended on a rotatable support 25 frame at their upper ends and resting on a platform below the frame in a manner to relieve all strains and become readily accessible.

A. further feature is in the provision of means Whereby identification devices are instantly accessible for application to each of the laundry bags, like devices being used on goods of different color and material for the same customers.

Another purpose is to produce a mechanism having an encircling platform at a convenient height on which the articles in each batch may be released from their netted bags, thereafter to be conveniently wrapped and tied, forming individual packages, ready for delivery, supplies of paper and twine being arranged on the upper portion of the machine, for instant access.

These and other advantageous objects, which will become further on apparent, are accomplished by the novel and practical construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, constituting a graphical component of this disclosure, and in which:

Fig. 5 is a top plan view drawn to· an enlarged scale, certain of the upper elements being omitted.

Referring in further detail to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates a pedestal having a base 11 to be secured to the floor. The upper end of the pedestal is bored to receive an axial vertical shaft 12 on which is a collar (3 resting on the pedestal and forming the lower element of an anti-friction, combination thrust and radial bearing i 4 to which further reference will be made. This collar is provided with a notch 15 in its underside to receive a pin 16 adapted to engage in any of the perforations 19 in the shaft 12 by which it may be adjusted for height.

A radial bearing 20, provided with a stem 20' on its lower element, has its upper element or race adapted to constitute the hub of a spider 22, while the stem is slidably mounted in a sleeve 21 fixed on the unper end of the shaft 12, (see Figs. 2 and 3).

The outer ends of the spider 22 are fixed in· a rigid ring 23, forming, in effect, a wheel revolvable on a vertical axis.

The ring 23 carries cross bars 25 having at their ends support brackets 26, connected at their tops by rails 27 which support a pair of spaced transverse shafts 28 adapted to carry rolls of wrapping paper 29; shear blades 30 are pivotally mounted on the brackets to cut the paper into such length as may be desired as it is unrolled.

. Rigidly attached to the ring 23, at equal distances apart, are upright bars 31 connected by radial arms 33, . twisted near their inner ends, which are fixed to the outer elements of the bearing 14.

These bars 31 extend downwardly a uniform distance and are then bent outwardly, at right angles, forming radial supports 34 for a platform or breaker table 35, on which the contents of i the bags may be disposed, there to be conveniently bundled.

While the platform is shown as pentagonal in profile to accommodate a plurality of operators to work at one time, it will be understood > the invention is not so limited.

The ring 23 has fixed upon it a series of flat plates 36 on the outer faces of which are attached hollow brackets 37, their bottoms, at the front, extending upwardly at an approximate ani gle of 45°, constituting pockets suited to receive angularly inclined bag support arms 3 3, removably held when in operative position by engaging pins 39, passing through the sides of the brackets at their lowermost corners, see Fig. 4.

3U hooks 40 for the suspension of tags 41 bearing indicia relative to each individual wash, the tags, when not raised for display, resting in the brackets.

Slidable on the tag arms 38 are rings 42 engaged with the ends of specially large safety pins 43, used to support the gathered upper ends of meshed or netted laundry bags 44, the lower ends of which rest on the surface of the platform 35 thereby relieving undue strain on the bag fabric.

Hooks or like means 45 are also provided for supporting hanks of twine 46 at various convenient locations around the frame.

It is to be noted that a single pair of brackets 37 face each of the five segments comprising the platform, parallel with its straight outer edge, thereby rendering it convenient for use by several operators at the same time.

Although the foregoing is descriptive of the best known embodiment of the invention, it is to be regarded as suggestive rather than restrictive, except as defined by the annexed claims.
