To all whom it may concern :

Be it known that I, Charles Rowland, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Washington, Districtof Columbia, have in5 vented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Paper-Holder and Label, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has for its object to provide an inexpensive combined paper-holder andlaio bel, especially intended for small parcels of store-goods, or for bills and other papers.

To this end my invention consists in a combined label and paper-holder composed of a piece of fabric having embedded therein an 15 elastic band, forming a ring, said embedded portion of the band being cemented or glued in place to prevent its displacement, and so arranged within the in term ediate body portion of the fabric as to have the label possess smooth 20 and uninterrupted upper and lower surfaces, the upper surface serving to receive the desired written inscription.

In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1, 2, and 3 illustrate plan views of my invention, 25 the paper label being in slightly different forms and applied to different forms of packages: aud Figs. 4 and 5 are edge views of the label, showing more clearly the rubber band embedded in the label.

The label is composed of a piece of paper fabric of rectangular, square, or other suitable outline, and within its under side is embedded one portion of a rubber or other elastic band, so as to form a ring. This band is em35 bedded in the paper fabric so as to lie intermediate the upper and lower surfaces of the paper, and is confined in place by suitable cement or glue, so as to prevent its longitudinal or other displacement. By embedding the elastic band within the paper label interine- 40 diate the surfaces of the same the said surfaces are each made to possess uniform smoothness, and the upper surface serves to receive the required inscription. .

The combined labels and elastic bands, con- _4Sstructed as herein set forth, possess the desideratum of beingcomparatively inexpensive, can be readily and conveniently manufactured, and, owing to their cheapness of production, may be gratuitously given with parcels of 50 goods purchased.

The rubber band may be embedded in the label the entire length of the same, so as to project directly from the edges of the same, as shown in Fig. 4, or it may be embedded in the 55 label and project from the same on the underside at· a short distance from the edges, as shown in Fig. 5.
