LEG BAND AND HOSE SUPPORTER FOR FOUNDATION GARMENTS

Claims.

This invention relates to foundation garments and particularly to leg bands and hose supporters connected with the lower edge portion of the garment and functioning to support 5 the hose as well as to hold the garment in a lowered and properly functioning position.

Another object of the invention is to provide a retaining leg band for corsets or other foundation garments, which when in functioning po1θ sition will encircle the respective legs and extend from spaced points on the garment, and which may be readily removed at any time when not desired.

A further object of the invention is to provide 1® in an undergarment leg-encircling bands, hose supporters, and connecting structures arranged at spaced points on the garment for removably connecting the respective bands and hose supporters.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a corset or other foundation garment which may be of any desired construction, as for instance a garment that is elastic circumferentially but substantially non45 elastic longitudinally.

In garments of this kind it has been found that the lower edge portion and, in fact, the lower part of the garment creeps up and moves out of correct functioning position. In order to 50 prevent this action a pair of leg-encircling bands 2 and 3 are provided, there being one band for each leg, which when in functioning position, as shown in Fig. 1, will prevent the garment i riding up. Associated with these bands are 55 hose supporters 4 and 5.

The respective bands 2 and 3 are preferably longitudinally elastic but they could be made of inelastic material. Preferably at each end the respective bands are turned over to form loop portions or hems 6. The bar 7 of the band hook 5 8 extends through the hem 6 while the hook part 9 removably extends through a loop portion 10 forming the under part of a short strap 11 held in place by stitching 12. The stitching 12 also extends through a strap 14 which is 10 provided with a loop I 5. It will therefore be noted that the stitching 12 connects the straps 11 and 14 together and as the stitching extends through the garment 1 these straps are firmly stitched to the garment I at the lower edge por- 15 tion thereof. The straps II and 14 may be elastic or inelastic material as preferred but preferably are formed of some strong fabric. It will be understood that the bands 2 and 3 are identically formed at each end and that all 20 of the straps 11 and 14 are identical except that they are properly spaced apart to locate correctly the various hose supporters. It will therefore be understood that a description of one group of these members will apply to all groups. 25

There are four hose supporters with associated groups of straps 11 and 14, while there are only two leg-encircling bands 2 and 3. The straps 11 and 12 of one group are spaced from similar members of the other group and ar- 30 ranged so that there will be one group near the center of the front of each leg. The other two groups are arranged at the sides or rear part of the garment as preferred so that the strain of the hose supporters on the stockings 35 may be properly distributed and the stocking properly supported.

It will be noted that the hook part of the member 9 is provided with a rounded head 9' so that it may be readily pushed or threaded 40 through the loop 10 but will not become readily disengaged therefrom.

In regard to the hose supporters it will be understood that they are of identical construction so that a description of 4 will apply to all 45 supporters. As illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, supporter 4 is provided with the usual strap 16 having the conventional buttons 17 coacting with the usual metal loop 18 so as to engage the hose when the hose supporter is in use. The strap 16 50 is provided with a loop 20 through which the rear bar 21 extends. A hook portion 22 extends through the loop 15 and is held against accidental removal by an enlarged head 22'. In this form of the invention the bar 21 merges into an 55

2,149,149 arc-shaped pinching bar 23 coacting with an upstanding part 24 on hook 22, whereby the hook 22 will not become accidentally disengaged from loop 15. It will be understood, however, that the 5 hook 22 may be manually actuated for disengagement from the loop 15 and the hook 9 may be manually disengaged from the loop iO. These hooks may be readily applied or removed at any time so that if desired all of the hose supporters 10 and both the bands 2 and 3 may be used at the same time. Also, if desired, the bands 2 and 3 may be removed and only the hose supporters used.

When it is desired to wash the foundation gar15 ment I, all the hose supporters are removed and also both bands 2 and 3. After the garment has been properly laundered any of these members may be applied and thereby caused to function in the usual way.

It is understood that the hose supporters function in the usual way of supporting hose and assist in holding the garment I in its lowered or functioning position. However the main holding action of the garment ί is produced by the two leg bands 2 and 3 which encircle the front and rear and the inner part of each leg, while the outer part of each leg is encircled by the lower edge portion of the garment I. In this way there is a desired holding action for main30 taining the garment I in proper functioning position without producing any undesirable pressure or strain on any part. It will therefore be understood that the main feature of the garment is that it can be worn comfortably without the hose 35 supporters, for instance when stockings are not worn, and the leg bands will hold the girdle down in place and prevent it from riding up.
