This invention pertains to closure caps and more especially to such as are designed for the closing of milk bottles. Among the objects of this invention are the provision of a cap which 5 can be manufactured and sold for a less price than the most popular caps now on the market; to provide a cap of the character indicated which will afford a greater degree of sanitation than the previously manufactured caps; to provide a 10 cap which will furnish a perfect seal for a standard milk bottle; to provide a cap which will reduce to a minimum the space on the top of the cap wherein water and dirt can collect; and such further objects, advantages, and capabilities as 15 will hereafter appear and as are inherent in the construction disclosed herein.

Reference will now be made in greater detail to the annexed drawing for a more complete description of this invention. In the drawing, a 25 bottle is represented by the letter B, while the cap is represented, in general, by the letter C. Inside of the pouring lip, a standard milk bottle is provided with a ledge I for the reception of a closure cap of any suitable type. One of the ₃₅ popular caps of the present day is constructed somewhat along the lines indicated in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 of Patent No. 1,615,157. However, a cap with a deep top opening, such as shown in this patent, furnishes too much room for the collec40 tion of water and dirt on the top thereof. The cap which I have produced comprises a circular grooved portion 2 adapted to flt closely the pouring rim of the milk bottle. The outer periphery of this cap. is provided with a rib or bead 3 which 45 furnishes a reinforcement for the cap, thus rendering it more difficult for the rim of the cap to expend when moist and being handled.

The inner portion of the grooved rim is extended inwardly in the form of a flat ring 4 60 which rests upon the ledge ί of the milk bottle to close the mouth thereof. The central portion of the cap is dome shaped, as indicated at S, which permits easier application of the cap to a bottle, the upright wall 6 of the cap being slightly 56 larger in diameter than the corresponding wall of the bottle so that it is necessary for this to contract somewhat when the cap is being placed upon the bottle. This furnishes an outward pressure upon the mouth of the bottle to hold the cap 60 in place after it has been inserted.

As shown in Fig. 3, the cap is formed with a tapered rib 7 at the top of the grooved portion, and this furnishes an opening for the reception of the label disc 8. It is usual in this art to make up the body of the caps without the discs 8 and 5 store them for use later when an order is received for a supply of caps. When the order is received, the required printing is placed upon the discs 8, and these are then inserted into the opening within the flange 7 and the edge of this flange 10 is forced inwardly, as indicated at 9. This furnishes means for retaining the label in place. The rib 7 also furnishes a fulcrum about which the channeled rim of the cap may operate when a pull is exerted on the rib or bead 3 tending to 15 remove the cap from the bottle. ° The effect of such a pull is to tend to draw the part 6 outwardly into tighter engagement with the mouth of the bottle.
