My invention relates to an improvement in breechettes of a type which may be worn to protect the legs of the wearer from the cold.

It is a feature of my invention to provide a garment which may be readily put on over ordinary clothes so that the wearer may quickly be dressed to withstand cold, and yet which may be quickly and easily removed when not desired for use.

It is a feature of my invention to provide a garment which extends from the ankle to above the knee of the wearer. Means is provided to closely encompass the ankle and leg above the knee to protect the legs of the wearer from cold and from snow or moisture. In this way the hosiery of the wearer is protected while the wearer is out of doors.

In recent years the use of breeches and skipants by women has become widespread; however it is difficult to wear such garments over 'other ordinary clothes. As garments such as breeches and ski-pants are apt to be uncomfortable and cumbersome indoors, it is felt advantageous to provide a garment which may be worn with ordinary clothes and which may be readily removed when coming in from out of doors.

These and other objects and novel features of my invention will be more clearly and fully set forth in the following specification and claims.

In the drawing forming a part of my specification:

Figure 1 illustrates my breechettes in use.

Figure 2 illustrates the manner in which the breechettes fit upon the legs of the wearer.

Figure 3 illustrates the breechettes in detail.

Figure 4 is a cross-sectional detail on the line 4—4 of Figure 3.

My breechettes A are comprised of a front portion 10 and a rear portion 11 of heavy cloth or other suitable material. The front 10 and rear 11 are secured together along seams 12 along opposite side edges of the garment, as illustrated in Figure 4. The side edges 13 and 14 are somewhat arcuated in shape and are somewhat narrower at the top extremity 15 and the lower extremity 16 thereof.

Along the top extremity 15, I secure a sleeve 17 of elastic material, preferably knitted webbing forming a cuff, which is secured to the front portion 10 and rear portion 11 by rows of stitching 18. This sleeve 17 of elastic material fits closely about the leg of the wearer just above the knee and prevents cold air from entering the garment at this point. At the lower extremity 16 of the garment A, I provide a sleeve 19 of elastic material which may be in the form of a knitted cuff and which is secured to the garment by stitching 20 and which fits closely about the ankle of the wearer, either just above the shoes or about the tops of the shoes or overshoes.

When the breechettes A are being worn, the wearer is protected from cold and the hosiery of the wearer is protected from being soiled by snow or moisture. The garments are so designed that they may be readily put on or removed over 5 the shoes.

In accordance with the patent statutes I have described the principles of construction of my breechettes and while I have endeavored to set forth the best embodiments thereof, I desire to 10 have it understood that this is only illustrative of a means of carrying out my invention and that obvious changes may be made within the scope of the following claims without departing from the spirit of my invention. 15
