Claim. (CI. 62—129)
This invention is directed to the provision of portable air conditioning equipment which is very efficient in operation, compact and simple in construction and relatively inexpensive in operation.
The accompanying drawing shows an embodiment of the invention in part sectional elevation.
Referring to the drawing in detail, I designates an enclosing cabinet divided by transverse partitions 2 and 3 into an air conditioning chamber 10 4, a motor and condenser chamber 5 and a compressor chamber 6.
The air conditioning chamber 4 is provided with air intake grilles 1 formed in the walls of the cabinet I and with a discharge throat and 15 air discharge grilles 8 and 9 at the top of the cabinet.
Within the air conditioning chamber I provide a set of coiled air conditioning tubes 10, air being drawn into the chamber 4 through the grilles 7 20 and over and around the conditioning coils or pipes 10 by a fan H disposed at the mouth of the throat 8, the air being discharged by the fan through this throat and discharge grilles 9 to the room or enclosure in which the cabinet is located. The fan 11 is driven by a vertically dls25 posed motor 12 which is within the conditioning chamber 4 and mounted on springs S3 on the upper face of the partition 2.
In the lower chamber 6 of the cabinet is the „„ compressor 14, the compressor being supported on spring mounted frame 15, which extends into ' the intermediate chamber 5 where it supports an electric motor 16.
The compressor 14 and motor 16 are mounted 35 vertically and in alignment with each other.
In the chamber 5 and surrounding the motor 16 is an air cooled condenser 17. The upper end of this condenser is connected by tubing 18 to a tank 19 which is connected by tubing 20 to the 40 discharge side of the compressor 14. The other end of the condenser is connected by tubing 21 to a tank 22. The tanks 19 and 22 are disposed in the chamber 6 of the cabinet I.
The conditioning fluid which is compressed by 45 the compressor 14 is forced through the condenser 17 and liquefied, the liquid passing into the tank 22 from which it is forced by the pressure in the system through the tubing 23 which extends from the interior of the tank 22 near the 50 bottom thereof upwardly through the cabinet to the intake end of the conditioning coils 10 in the chamber 4. The tubing 23 is provided with an expansion valve 24. The conditioning fluid after circulating through the conditioning coils 10 re55 turns to the intake side of the compressor by tubing 25.
The cabinet I is provided with an air intake conduit 26, the outer end of which may be placed in position in a window opening, for example, and air is drawn through this conduit into the lower chamber 6 of the cabinet 1 by a fan 27 which is mounted On the drive shaft 28 which connects 5 the compressor 14 and motor .16. The air which is drawn into the cabinet by this fan is dis- ·· charged out of the cabinet after passing over the coils of the condenser 17 through conduit 29.
The above described device is very simple and 10 inexpensive in construction, the vertical mounting of the compressor 14, its drive motor 16 and the vertical mounting of the separately controlled motor 12 which drives the air fan 11 conserving floor space as will be appreciated. It will 15 be appreciated also that by driving the fan 11 with its own motor 12 the air in which the de- v vice is located may be circulated without the necessity of running the compressor 14.
It will be appreciated, furthermore, that by 20 providing the fan 11 with its individual motor 12 the apparatus can be operated at considerable saving in current consumption as compared with apparatus wherein whenever it is desired to run the fan 11 when it may not be necessary to run 25 the compressor 14 both fan and compressor are necessarily driven due to the fact that one motor is employed for driving both.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the details of construction and arrange- 30 ment of parts hereinabove described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
