IMPROVEMENT IN THREAD-CUTTERS FOR SEWING-MACHINES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,648, dated September 3, 1878; application filed April 16,1878.

To all whom it may concern-’

Be it known that I, Edward Flather, of Bridgeport, county of Fairfield, State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Thread-Cutters, of which the following is a specification:

The invention provides a sure and efficient thread-cutter for sewing-machines.

In the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts, A, Figure 1, is the needle-bar. Attached to i ts lower end is the lower thread-guide, B, fastened to the bar A by the screw b. By beveling the shank c of the guide B, I form a sharp, cheap, and simple cutter for severing threads.

I am aware that thread-cutters have hereto fore been attached to different parts of sewing-machines for the purpose described, and an extra expense is therefore incurred; but in this case the thread-guide is an almost indispensable appendage to the needle-bar, and by beveling the shank c, thus forming a sharp edge for cutting threads, a sure and ever-ready cutter is provided without extra expense.
