TOILET PAPER CONTAINER AND DISPENSER

Claims. (Cl. 200—57) tainer blank which is suitably scored along the parallel longitudinal lines a and the transverse parallel lines 2α, and cut through along the longitudinal lines 3α and transverse lines 4α, to provide the front and rear walls B and B', the side walls 5 C and C', and the end walls D and D' of the container when the blank is suitably assembled into box-like form.

The end wall D' has a slot d extending completely thereacross and centrally thereof parallel 10 to the ends of the container, and also has formed integrally therewith an extension portion E of a length greater than the length of the wall B by an amount e which is best shown in Fig. 1. The portion e of the blank on its side opposite to that 15 containing· the scorings a and 2α is scored along the line 4α parallel to the ends of the container and said line of scoring is such as to divide, the portion e into two parts, the outermost, of which is slightly wider than the inner part thereof so 20 that when the outermost part is folded down along the line,4α the free edge thereof will project beyond the scored line 2α for a purpose which will presently, appear. The portion e is formed with, aligned openings 2e so disposed with rela- 25? tion to the line of fold 4α that said openings will coincide when the outermost portion of the part e is folded down in the manner aforesaid.

The blank is suitably folded along its scored, lines a, and the flap F. adhesively secured to the 3.0side wall B', to provide a box-like container with open ends. The end wall D', together with its extension portion, is then folded along the scored lines 2α, whereupon the end flaps 2d will enter into the box-like container as the extension por- 35 tion E is inserted thereinto. It will be appreciated that when this is done the extension portion E will overlie the back B and the portion e will project beyond the top edge of said back B. At this point the toilet paper, paper towels, or 40 the like, G, are introduced into the container through the top thereof. This being accomplished, the dispensing container may be closed up for packing and shipping in either of the following manners:—(1) The portion e may be bent 45 back upon itself along the line of fold 4α to bring the openings 2e into coincident relation and the free edge of said extension down into the container, after which the top end D may be folded along its scored lines 2α to bring the flap J into ⁵⁰overlapping relation to the end of the portion e to close the end of the container in a manner best shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The resulting package will have a projecting tab thereon ready for mounting upon hooks h secured in a supporting ⁵⁵

My present invention relates to containers or receptacles for holding and dispensing toilet paper, paper towels, and the like, and aims to provide certain improvements therein. More par5 tlcularly it relates to a dispensing container which has novel means integral therewith for supporting the container to facilitate dispensing the contents therefrom.

An object of the invention is to provide a de10 vice of the character described, formed from a single blank of cardboard and the like, having integral reinforcing means for providing a suitable suspending medium for the container. A further object is to provide a carton having a dis15 pensing opening in its bottom wall, which latter . is made integral with the suspending means so as to distribute the pressure over other portions of the carton when withdrawing the contents therefrom. A further object is to provide a device 20 of the character described wherein the supporting means normally do not interfere with the packing and shipping of the containers.

The foregoing and other objects of my invention I accomplish by forming the wall of the con25 tainer having the dispensing slot therein integral with the container supporting flap or tab, and where said . dispensing opening is in the bottom wall I. extend the panel containing said wall back under the rear wall of the container so· as to 30: project beyond the top thereof to provide the supporting tab thereat. I also preferably make said projecting tab of a length substantially equal to or slightly less than the depth of the container so that it may be doubled back upon itself to 35 provide the tab, or if desired it may be folded down flat against said top and be held in such position during packing and shipping by the top flap of the carton. The invention will be better understood from the detailed description which 40 follows when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawing showing a preferred embodiment of my invention, and wherein

(2) Alternatively, the extension e may be folded down across the top of the container preferably after the end flaps 3d have been turned 5 down, after which the top end D may be folded down over the part e to bring the flap J into between the wall B' and extension portion E to close the container to provide a package free from projections as best shown in Figs. 4 and 5.

Where the dispensing container is packed and shipped in the form shown in Fig. 4 it may contain instructions on the top thereof for withdrawing the portion e and folding it back upon itself to provide the supporting tab for the container as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

From the foregoing detailed description it will be apparent that I have provided a simple, economical and practical combined container and dispensing device possessing the various features 20 described in the objects of my invention and wherein the bottom wall of the container, which is formed with the dispensing opening therein, will be reinforced by the extension member thereon which carries the supporting tab so that in 25 withdrawing the contents from said container through the dispensing slot any strain placed upon the bottom wall by such action will be in the main borne by the supporting elements h. and thus prevent the bottom of the container Q from opening up and discharging the contents en masse.

The invention it will be appreciated is susceptible of other detailed constructions and uses and I therefore do not wish to be limited to the ^:i precise construction disclosed since it will be apparent that the same may be deviated from without departing from the spirit of the invention.
