COMPRESSION SUPPORTING DEVICE
WiUis W. Lee, Detroit, Mich.
Application May 19, 1933, Serial No. 671,805
Claim.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a surgical appliance adapted, pr marily in treatment of subluxation or strain of the sacro-iliac articulation. The theory of the 5 treatment of such subluxation or strain of 4he sacro-iliac articulation is well understood by all physicians, osteopaths, chiropractors, etc. SabSxation or strain commonly results wrom a misplacement of the ilium, and in the treatment it is io necessary to compress both iliac bones into th sacrum by forcing both hips backward towards or Into the center of the back. This treatment may be done by manual manipulation, but where th _ strain or displacement has existed over a P 15 longed period of time, and in some cases where the displacement is of short duration, the bones have a tendency to resume the disarranged posita?t'is an object of the present invention to pro20 vide an appliance which may be secured to the body and which will serve as a means for forcma and at the same time affording means foi.bind ing the various parts in their proper postio .
It is another object of the present invention to . provide an appliance of this class whereby the treatment referred to mar be accomplished whi at the same time the appliance may to permit access to the sacral region for adjust 30 ments and treatments when desired. . ,
It is another object of the present mention to provide an appliance of this class which will be easily and quickly applied in position and throuah which the proper compression may be transmitte to the body for effecting the re-arrangement of thA^otherr object oUthe invention is the P™?^™ of an appliance of this class which will permit the patient to relieve the various parts of strain and compression when the use of the same is not desired, as for instance, when the patient is retiring for the night or is assuming for a considerable period of time a position which will take the pa^Another object of the invention is the Provision of an appliance of this class whereby the’amount Of compression or strain may be adjusted so that as the treatment continues, the strain may be released from day to day, thus ρθ™^ιηΜ 50 muscles and joints to gradually and naturally a «nme their normal functions.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an appliance whereby the strain exerted on both sides of the body is always’ assuring the proper compression at both sides
Of the body and eliminating the P°ssi^y torting the body into an unnatural foim or posi ^Another object of the invention is the provision of an appliance whereby the relative strain .on the upper edges and lower edges may be adjusted tn miit necessary conditions. . .
t0 Another object of the invention is the provismn of an appliance of this class so arranged and constructed that discomfort to be¥asto a minimum, interference to the thigh when as aiming a sitting position is obviated and a hard eniiig or wrinkling of the appliance avoided while at the same time a cracking or tearing; of the ^A^othCT’Sect'of the invention is the Provision whereby the sacro-iliac appliance may be positioned on a patient with a minimum amount of time and labor and with the greatest ease and ^Another object of the invention is the ProvisJ°p of a sacro-iliac appliance whereby a sacr™hpad may be used or dispensed with at wiU without necessitating the complete removal of the appliOther objects will appear hereinafter. . The invention consists in the combination ana arrangement of parts hereinafter described and
The invention will be best understood by a 30 reference to the accompanying drawing which, forms a part of this specification, and in which.

The appliance comprises a pair of fabric or skin portions 7 and 8, and in this connection it may be noted that experience has shown mole skin to be a very satisfactory material to use _ for this purpose, and in this specification and claim hereof, the word “fabric’ is to be mterpreted as to mean such material whether it be of a fabric or woven material as will servethe nnrnoses and functions intended. In the draw
I have illustrated these portions provided 50 with eyelets 9 through which a suitable lacing 10 may be projected. The purpose of the lacing is to provide a means for adjustably connecting these ends of the parts together. The major portion ofthe body of the fabric portions 7 and 8, 55 outwardly from the lines 11, is covered nn+nhe face witb aciilesive material and until used, this adhesive material is covered with a protective layer of gauze 12. This gauze is 5 b:xg%ib“j\sAesihred to press =y® rearing lace of the fabric members in envas-pwrth the body.
