Claim. (Cl. 229—1.5)

This invention relates to an improved holder for ice-cream cones or the like, and has for one of its principal objects the provision of means for guarding against inconvenience and unclean5 liness arising from the drip or leakage to which ice-cream cones are subject.

One of the important objects of this invention is to provide a device for holding an ordinary ice-cream cone in the hands without subjecting 10 the consumer’s person or garments or surrounding objects to danger of leakage and drippings from the cone.

Another and still further important object of this invention is to provide, in an ice-cream cone 15 holder, means for a sanitary dispensing and consuming of same which at the same time is quite inexpensive and which further can be made ornamental, thereby adding considerably to attractiveness of the cones themselves when served.

The invention, in a preferred form, is illustrat²⁵ ed in the drawing, and hereinafter more fully described.

Figure 1 is a side elevation, parts being broken away, showing the improved ice-cream cone hold³⁰ er of this invention, illustrating a cone in position therein.

As shown in the drawing:

The. reference numeral 10 indicates generally a tray or saucer preferably of cardboard or the ⁴⁰ like, and also preferably of circular shape, having an opening in the middle thereof adapted for the reception of the body of the cone 12, the opening being of a size to support the cone at a point approximately one-half its height.

⁴⁵ As best illustrated in Figure 1, a pocket 14 for the reception of the lower end of the cone 12 Is provided, this pocket being of conical shape and approximately the outer dimensions of the lower end of the cone. The upper edge of this pocket ⁹⁰ is flared as shown at 16 and attached to the lower face of the tray 10 around the opening therein, by means of adhesive or the like. The holder may then be rendered impervious to moisture by treating with paraffin or the like.

⁵⁵ As best illustrated in Figures 1 and 3, the open- ing in the center of the tray need not necessarily be completely cut out, but may be flared by slitting that portion of the tray within the opening and then pushing back the partly cut segments 18. The outer faces of the segments may then 60 be treated with adhesive for attachment to the inner face of the pocket 14, or may be left free, thus forming a support or grip when a cone has been thrust therethrough and is contained therein. 65

As best illustrated in Figure 2, a modification of the invention comprises a saucer or tray 20, having a depression 22 formed in its center; this depression being provided with a central circular opening to the lower outer edge of which is 70 glued or otherwise fastened a pocket 22 of soft paper, waxed or similarly rendered impervious to moisture, and crimped to a substantially conical shape.

A further modification of the invention is illus- 75 trated in Figure 4 wherein the pocket 26 is rendered integral with the saucer 28 by forming for crimping suitable paper or similar material into a conical shape, the upper edge being outwardly flared to form a lip 28 of sufficient width to satis- ⁸⁹fy the requirements of a cone holder for this purpose.

It will be evident that herein is provided an ice-cream cone holder which is particularly adapted for serving ice-cream cones to children and ⁸⁵also to adults on occasions when hot weather renders drippage likely. The holders themselves can be readily and economically made and dispensed by the distributor or retailer of the cones, sufficient space being available on the tray itself ⁹⁰for the insertion of some attractive design, the advertisement of the dispenser, or of the cone or ice-cream manufacturer or some other desired or appropriate wording.

I am aware that many changes may be made ⁹⁵and numerous details of construction varied throughout a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon otherwise than as necessitated by the prior ¹⁰⁹art.
