In curtain roller construction, a hollow 75 sheet metal roller of generally circular cross section having an inwardly projecting seam formation on the inside thereof, a spindle in one end of the roller, a spring attached to the spindle, and a plate attached to the spring 80 and positioned in the roller diametrically of the latter with one of the . side edges of the plate held by the torsion of the spring against said inwardly projecting seam formation.
- 2In curtain roller construction, a hollow 83 sheet metal roller of generally circular cross section having an inwardly projecting seam formation on the inside thereof, a spindle in one end of the roller, a spring attached to the spindle, and a plate attached to the spring 90 and positioned in the roller diametrically of the latter with one of the side edges of the plate held by the torsion of the spring against said inwardly projecting seam formation, said plate being provided at one of 93 its ends with apertures, and said spring having its adj acent end hooked through the apertures.
- 3In curtain roller construction, a hollow sheet metal roller of generally circular cross 100 2 1,900,259 section having an inwardly projecting seam formation on the inside thereof, a spindle in one end of the roller, a spring attached to the spindle, and a plate attached to the spring ΰ and positioned in the roller diametrically pf the latter with one of the side edges of the plate held by the torsion of the spring against said inwardly projecting seam formation, said plate being a rectangular mem- 10 ber of slightly less width than the inside diameter of the roller and being provided at one of its ends with apertures, and said spring having its adjacent end hooked through the apertures. 15 4. In curtain roller construction, a hollow sheet metal roller of generally circular cross section having an inwardly projecting seam formation on the inside thereof, a spindle journaled in one end of the roller, a spring 20 connected at one of its ends to the spindle, and a sheet metal stamping connected to the other end of the spring, said stamping being provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending parallel, supporting :edges 25 which are spaced apart far enough to engage against the inside of the roller and center the stamping within the same, and one of said supporting edges on the stamping being held in lateral abutment with the seam formation so by the torsion of the spring. Application filed September 10, 1932. Serial No. 632,568.
This invention relates to curtain rollers of the hollow sheet metal type, and is particularly concerned with the way in which the inner end of the torsion spring is fastened to 6 the roller.
Heretofore it has been the practice to use a bung of some sort for this purpose, with the bung grooved out along one side to interfit with the seam on the inside wall of the roller.
In such constructions, the bung has represented an appreciable part of the cost of the roller and has required some time in which to properly fit the same.
The object of the present invention is to 15 provide an improved torsion spring anchor, in the form of a small plate, which is very inexpensive to produce and easy to apply and will serve the purpose just as well if not better than the more complicated spring anchor20 age devices used in the past.
In order that the invention may be readily understood, one particular structural embodiment of the same is presented herein, but it will of course be appreciated that such em25 bodiment is intended primarily for the purpose of exemplification and that the invention is susceptible of incorporation in other structurally modified forms coming equally within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a face view of a window curtain assembly showing the roller equipped with, the improved spring anchor;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the 35 spring end of the roller; and
Fig. 3 is a transverse section through the roller, showing the anchor in end elevation.
As will be observed in the drawing, the roller, which is designated by the numeral 10, 40 is of hollow sheet metal construction and is journaled in a pair of end brackets 11 and 12. The spring end of the roller contains a short spindle 13 which is rotatably mounted in an end bung 14 in the roller and is provided with 45 a flattened end 15 which fits non-rotatably in a conforming slot 16 in the adjacent end bracket 11. The other end of the spindle extends into and is secured to one end of a long coiled torsion spring 17. The far end of the 30 spring 17, instead of being attached to the usual anchoring bung, is hooked through two spaced apertures 18 in the adjacent end of a small flat rectangular plate19, which plate may be made of metal, fiber or other suitable material. The length of the plate is of no 55 particular consequence, but the width of the same is preferably just a little less than the inside diameter of the roller, i so that the tendency of the wound spring 17 to turn the pl ate will press the side edges 20 of the latter eo firmly against one side of the inside seam 21 in the roller and also against one side of the curtain holding groove 22 in the roller,· provided the roller has such a groove.
This simple yet fully efficient anchoring 65 device costs practically nothing to make and may be assembled quickly with the roller in properly interlocked association with the latter by mere insertion of the plate without any regard to its position, the action of the spring 70 17 when wound serving to bring the edges of the plate into engagement with the formations 21 and 22 on the inside of the roller.
