Manicure device

My invention relates to manicure devices and more especially to that kind, which are used for whitening the inside of the projecting finger-nail. Such manicure devices have 6 the outward appearance of a short pencil, preferably round and pointed at one end, like a sharpened pencil, so as to expose the whitening material which forms the core of the device in a similar way as the lead of a .10 lead pencil.

Now, the object of my invention is to combine with the whitener a cleaner, or a brush, or both so as to thereby add to the function of the device, making the same more useful 15 and practical.

For a fuller understanding of my invention, I refer to the annexed drawings wherein, by way of illustration, I have shown various embodiments of the new manicure de20 vice, and in which.

Fig. 1 is a full view of a manicure device embodying the invention and adapted for use both as a cleaner and a whitener; Fig. 2 is a similar view as Fig. 1, showing a mani25 cure device adapted for use as a whitener and a brush; Fig. 3 is another view, similar to Fig. 1, showing a device which, in addition to the features as a cleaner and a whitener, shows a separate brush adapted to serve as so a protecting cap either for the cleaner or the whitener: Fig. 4 finally shows a device, combining a brush with a whitener and having as a separate element a cleaner, which may serve as a protecting cap either for the brush 85 or the whitener.

As shown in Fig. 1, the pencil-like device, preferably made of wood and of round shape, consists of a central body part 1 containing a whitening material in the form of a thin ⁴⁰ core embedded in or enclosed by the body part 1, which at one end is pointed like a pencil to expose the whitening core shown on the left in Fig. 1 at 2. On the right in Fig. 1 the body part 1 is shaped to form a rather 45 sharp point 3, which is used as a cleaner, prior to the use of the whitener 2. In this manner, a handy manicure device is produced, combining both the functions of a cleaner and whitener.

³⁸ In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the central body part 4, similar to the body part 1 in Fig. 1, encloses a core of whitening material, which core protrudes from the pointed end on the left in Fig. 2 as shown at 5. On the right in Fig. 2, the end of the body 85 part 4 has secured thereto a small cap 6, preferably of metal, which has fastened therein tufts of short bristles forming a small brush, as shown at 7 in Fig. 2. In this manner, the manicure device combines with the whitener 60 a brush, whereby the excess of whitening applied to a finger nail can easily be brushed off.

Another modification is shown in Fig. 3, showing the manicure device of Fig. 1, com- ⁸⁸prising a central body part 8, a whitener tip 9, and a pointed cleaner 10. But, in addition, there is provided a brush in the shape of a protecting cap 11, carrying at its end a small brush shown at 12. The protecting 70 cap 11, which is preferably made of metal, but also may be made of celluloid, bakelite, or other suitable material, forms a separate manicure element and can at the same time be used, either to protect the pointed cleaner 75 or the whitener tip of the device. . In this manner, a cleaner, whitener and brush are united in a single device, greatly increasing the uses of the same.

Fig. 4 shows the device of Fig. 2 compris- ⁸⁰ing a central body part 13, a whitener 14 and a brush 15, and in addition thereto a protecting cap 16 made of any desired suitable material and having a pointed end 17, which in this case is used as the cleaner, at the same ⁸⁵time serving as a protecting cap for either the brush or the whitener.

Obviously, the central body part of the device may be given any desired shape or crosssection, and it may be made of any desired ^8fVsuitable material, as long as it encloses a core of a whitening material or any other desired color and is shaped to provide at its opposite end either a cleaner or a brush, to be used in, combination with the whitener or other color- ⁸⁵ing element. If the central part is made of wood, the pointed end shown in Figs. 1 and 3 respectively at 3 and 10 may be made of the same wood as the body or a harder wood, or other suitable material may be used which in ¹⁰¹

While I have described a device to be used for manicuring purposes, it is readily con-, 5 ceivable that the same may also be used for other purposes, such as for coloring articles, or similar purposes, in which case the brush may be used as an artist’s brush.
