Window or door screen

My invention relates to improvements in window or door screens.

One of the objects of my invention is to provide a novel window or door screen frame 5 which can be easily and quickly adjusted to different lengths and widths, which is cheap to make, is durable, strong, not likely to get out of order, which will hold the screen wire firmly stretched, and which permits the easy 10 and quick replacement of the screen wire when the latter requires such replacement.

The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.

Each arm of each base and clamping member is provided with a longitudinal slot 4 which registers with the adjacent slot or slots of the over or underlying arms. 65

Additional screws 7 may also be extended through registering slots 4, as shown in 75 Fig. 1. .The, screws 6 and 7 are adjustable length wise of the slots 4 through which they respectively extend. The screws 7 also extend through the screen wire 3.

The inner end of each screw 6 and 7 has so mounted on it a nut 8, Figs. 2 and 5, said nuts bearing against the inner sides of the adjacent arms of the base members 1.

The base members 1 are adjusted on each other to the positions which will make the 85 frame of the proper size. The screen wire 3 cut to size is placed on the base members 1 and the clamping members 2 disposed on the screen wire 3 and overlying the base members 1. 90

The screws 6 are then inserted, as are the screws 7, through holes 5 and slots 4 which are in register. The nuts 8 are then mounted on the screws 6 and 7 and tightened against ₅ the base members 1, the screws being extended through the screen wire 3. The clamping members 2, thus tightly clamp the screen wire 3 against the base members 1, and the.screws 6 and 7 hold the screen wire from pulling out from between the members which clamp it.

To replace the screen wire, after it becomes worn, the nuts 8, screws 6 and 7 and clamping plates 2 are removed with the worn wire, and new wire is then mounted on the base members and clamped thereto by reassembling the clamping plates 2, screws 6 and 7 and nuts 8. . . ____________ - —_r-------_d ---If a screen larger than can be formed with lapping and longitudinally adjustable on the the base and clamping members alone, this may be effected by the employment of four straight extension base plates 9 and four· extension channel plates 10. The base, plates and channel plates are used impairs.

Each base plate 9 has a longitudinal slot 4' and with two holes ,5' respectively adjacent to its ends. The clamping plates 10 are each provided with a longitudinal slot 4' and two holes 5' respectively adjacent to its ends.

To form the frame shown in Fig. 6, the base members 1, shown in dotted lines, are disposed in a rectangle with their adjacent arms spaced apart. Extension base plates 9 are then mounted on the members 1 so as to bridge the spaces between them..

The screen wire 3, cut to size, is then placed on the base members 1 and base plates 9. The clamping members 2 are then mounted respectively on the base members 1, as has been described, and the clamping plates 10 are then mounted respectively on the base plates 9, the latter and the clamping plates 10 overlapping the adjacent arms of the members 1 and 2.

Screws 6 are then extended through the holes 5' and the holes 5 or slots 4 of the members 1 and 2 which register with said holes 5'. Nuts are mounted on the screws 6 which are extended through the plates 9 and 10 and members 1 and 2 and through the screen wire 3. Bolts and nuts are assembled in connection with the members 1 and 2, where not covered by the plates 9 and 10, in the manner already described in connection with the form shown in Fig. 1.
