This invention relates to refrigerating apparatus and more particularly to a sound deadening mounting for the refrigerating machinery.
g An object of this invention is to provide a refrigerating system in which the motor which drives the machinery is isolated from the rest of the refrigerator by sound deadening means.
Another object of this invention is to provide a mounting for a motor, which mounting has sound deadening means.
Another object of this invention is to provide a resilient mounting for a motor which 15 has compressed rubber breaking any metallic contact between the motor and the base upon which it is mounted.
Another object of this invention is to provide a rubber mounting for a motor which 20 permits the use of a belt drive without slippage.
Further objects and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following description, reference being had to 25 the accompanying drawings, wherein a preferred form of the embodiment of present invention is clearly shown.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a motor and 30 compressor embodying features of my invention ;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged side view of a portion of the spring mounting and a portion of the motor;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section of a portion of the spring mounting of the motor;
Fig. 4 is a perspective of one of the members shown in Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a perspective of a rubber member 40 shown in Fig. 3 before being subjected to compression.
A refrigerating system embodying features of my invention may comprise a motor 20 driving a compressor 21 by means of a belt 22. 45 The compressor 21 may be connected to other parts of the refrigerating system not shown. For instance, the compressor may deliver compressed refrigerant to a condenser which discharges liquefied refrigerant to a receiver. 50 The receiver delivers liquid refrigerant to an evaporator which absorbs heat units from the space to be refrigerated and returns the evaporated refrigerant to the compressor. These parts of the system may be of the well known variety and have not been illustrated. 55
The motor 20 may have a drive shaft 30 which may be provided with a pulley (not shown) at the end opposite that shown in Fig. 1. .
The drive shaft 30 drives the belt 22 by co means of said pulley. The belt 22 drives the large wheel 31 of the crankshaft of the compressor which lies in an axis substantially in line with plug 32.
The motor 20 and the compressor 21 may G5 be mounted on a base generally designated as 33. The compressor, if desired, may be rigidly bolted to the base 33 by such means as bolts 34. The motor 30 may be mounted on the base 33 with rubber breaking metallic 70 contact between the motor and base. As a means of so mounting the motor, the motor 20 may be mounted on the base 33 by means of C-shaped leaf springs 35. These springs 35 may be of stiff resilient metal and they may 75 be placed transversely to the plane of the belt 22. The springs may be bolted to the base 33 by means of bolts 36. Rubber may be interposed between the motor and base preferably at the upper free ends 37 of go springs 35 which may be attached to the motor 20 by special rubber interposing means generally designated as 40.
The special means 40 may comprise two cup shaped members 41 having apertures 42 55 slightly larger in diameter than a bolt 43 which passes thru said members 41. The ends 37 of the springs 35 may be provided with an aperture substantially the same or larger than the apertures 42 of members 41. 90 An end 37 of one of the springs 35 may be interposed between said members 41. Additional washers 45 slightly smaller in external diameter than member 41 and have central apertures of the same diameter as spring 95 ends 37 may be placed on either side of the spring ends 37. Two rubber members 46, shown before assembly in Fig. 5, may be interposed between each of two members 41 and 45. Before assembly, these rubber mem- 100
1,810,170 bers 46 may be disc-shaped with extensions
44. The bolt 43 with washers 43α may be placed thru a pedestal 47 of the motor and may pass thru the members 37,41,45 and 46.
5 These members may then be compressed by means of nut 48 with a washer 49 interposed between. This nut 48 will be. drawn up tightly enough to cause the rubber of members 46 to flow in between the bolt 43 and the mem10 bers 37,41,43 and 45 as well as at the flanges of member 41. It is thus seen that the pedestal 47 of the motor 20 has no metallic contact with the springs 35.
Since the belt 22 is the type of a drive 15 which includes a sound deadening member, the usual motor hum is not transmitted thru the belt drive 22. The rubber members 46 also are sound deadening members, and they are interposefl between the motor 20 20 ana the base 33 and do not transmit the hum.
Because , the rubber members 46 are tightly compressed, proper tension can be given to the belt 22 to prevent slippage. Since the springs 35 are specially made to be relative28 ly unyielding in the direction of the compressor but provide a slight resiliency in a vertical direction they also provide resiliency of the type which does not cause belt slippage.
80 While the form of embodiment of the present invention as herein disclosed, constitutes a preferred form, it is to be understood that other forms might ber adopted, all coming within the scope of the claims which f ol38 iow. r '
