This invention relates to household equipment, and is illustrated herein as embodied in a dresser mounted on a door and adapted for use as an article of disappearing furniture.

It is a matter of common knowledge that as apartments come more and more into vogue, articles of furniture that will conserve space increase in utility, and particularly is this true in view of the modern ten10 dency to very small apartments, commonly known as “efficiency” apartments. Thus, there are developed such articles as the “sky scraper” style of furniture, and the “Murphy” bed, and many others of a similar na15 ture.

In view of this prevailing demand for space-conserving devices, the present invention has for an important object thereof the provision of a door having a dresser built 20 thereon, the particular embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawings and disclosed in the specification hereof comprising a door which may be employed, for instance, to close a closet, and which has secured to 25 one side thereof a plurality of vertically alined drawers surmounted by a mirror.

In the drawing, which illustrates one embodiment merely of my invention, 10 designates a door having a relatively thin rectangular central portion 12, and a reinforcing portion 14 extended transversely of the door substantially midway of the height thereof. The reinforcing portion 14 at the outer face of the door is preferably shaped and arranged as these reinforcing portions are ordinarily shaped and arranged, so that the door 10 at its outer side presents the ap- 55 pearance of an ordinary door. At the inner side of the door 10, however, the reinforcing portion 14 preferably extends outwardly from the door a slightly greater distance than is ordinarily the case, and said rein- eo forcing portion, which is rectangular in form, provides horizontally disposed flat shoulders or abutments at the top and bottom thereof and vertically disposed flat shoulders or abutments at the opposite ends of 65 said reinforcing portion, which shoulders or abutments are designated respectively in the drawings by the reference characters 14^a, 14^b, 14^c, and 14^d.

By means of so positioning the mirror, it will be concealed from view from the side as shown in Fig. 2, thereby pre,40 senting a neat and compact arrangement.

Also, the lower portion of the frame of the mirror will conceal the heads of the fastening devices by which the dresser top 28 is secured to the reinforcing portion 14 of the . 45 door 10.

It will be appreciated, however, that as the door is moved articles resting on the top 28 of the dresser may tend to slide across the surface of the top and drop off. In order that this 55 danger will be avoided, the dresser is provided with a guard-rail 34, which extends about the dresser top 28 and is. of a sufficient height to prevent articles from sliding off of . said dresser top.

.. 60 Although the invention is illustrated and described herein as embodied in a dresser having a.mirror. and two sets of drawers, it is to be ,understood/ that the invention contemplates embodiment in dressers of other types -,.. 65 and appearances,., and furthermore that it contemplates the employment of doors having differently shaped and arranged reinforcing strips and thin central, panels.
