Fastening device

This invention relates to fastening devices, and has particular reference to means for hanging or mounting pictures, cards, posters and the like upon a suitable support& ing surface, such as .a wall, screen or the hike. . .....

The principal object of this invention is to produce a device of tjiis .character which will obviate the necessity of making a hole io in the picture or mount, thus preventing the mutilation of the same. ..

Another object is to produce a device of this character which is simple in construction, and therefore cheap to manufacture. 15 A still further object- of this invention is to produce a device of this character which is neat in appearance.

An additional object is to produce a device of this character which may be accom20 modated to all sizes of pictures or cards.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.

Figure 1 is a plan view of my device as employed in the hanging or mounting of a 30 picture.

Heretofore, it has been common to employ thumb tacks, ordinary tacks, nails or pins for the purpose of mounting pictures or 45 cards upon a surface. It is a tedious process to employ thumb tacks and at the same time, it presents an unsightly appearance. Moreover, the thumb tacks require two to each corner which is an expense and mate50 rially detracts from the appearance of the picture. I have therefore devised a means for mounting pictures which consists of a metal corner bracket having a fastening element secured thereto, which fastening element is adapted to enter the supporting sur- >'> face, such' as a wall. .

In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates an angular wall cop- t><> tacting' flat portion of my ' device which is preferably made of metal, apd substantially triangular in shape. Formed'integral, with this angular portion is a raised portion 6 connected thereto by intermediate inclined ⁰⁰portions 7 and 8.

A securing element is shown at 9 (see Figure 4)'. ’ This securing element' is adapted to enter the supporting surface as shown in Figure 2. In Figure 3 I have shown the 7» fastening element at 11, which is. punched from the metal forming my device, so as to be integral therewith.

In the modified form shown in Figure 6,1 attach by solder riveting or otherwise to the 75 inclined portions 7 and 8 a spring 12 adapted to contact the under-surface of the object being held, as for instance the mount 13 shown in Figure 5. I have found that in hanging pictures upon soft material such as ⁸⁰burlap commonly used in galleries results in the mounting becoming marred due to the fact that the holding element has no firm backing. By applying the spring 12, the edge of the mounting is securely held with 85 an even pressure on both sides thereof, thus preventing any marring of the mount.

The end of this spring 12 is bent so as to contact the supporting surface, as shown in Figure 5. This also provides for the easy 9θ gripping of the edge of the mount.

In employing my device the picture is placed upon the wall, one of my devices is placed adjacent each corner and the fastening element carried by the device is ⁰⁵pushed into the support. If it is desired, the pictures may be changed without removing the devices or the device may be readily removed and used again.

It will thus be seen that I have constructed ¹⁰⁰a device which will perform all of the objects above set forth.

It is to be understood that the form, of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the Ιθό same and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit
