Shoulder pad

This invention relates to pads for the protection of the shoulder when carrying objects by means of a strap passing over the shoulder.

The important objects of the invention are the provision of a pad as above which is particularly adaptable for use with a caddy bag. and in which the pad is held in relation to the carrying strap against acciden10 tai displacement.

To this end the invention contemplates a pad having a resilient or soft under surface adapted to lie next to the shoulder of the one carrying the bag or other weighty ob15 ject, 'to which is attached a leather backing. Overlying this backing is an upper leather member having lateral slots therein, the bag carrying strap being insertable through these slots so as to retain the pad on the 20 strap. Means such as additional padding is provided in order .to increase the frictional engagement of strap and pad so the latter will not become accidentally displaced thereon, which also serves to protect 25 the wearer’s shoulder.·.

I have illustrated in the accompanying drawings a preferred form of the invention.

Referring now to the embodiment shown, I have indicated a shield at 1 of fleece or other soft resilient material, having a backing 2 of leather or the like.

greater width and length is an upper leather 4 having three pairs of slots 5, 6, and 7, the 45 individual slots of each pair being slightly spaced apart, as shown.

The carrying strap of a caddy bag is shown at 9 passing through each pair of slots in the pad. It will be noted that the device is of sufficient length to extend over the shoulder of a wearer and slightly down the back 55 and front thereof. It should be of sufficient width to readily accommodate the straps and in addition provide enough extra width to protect the wearer’s shoulder.

It is apparent that the carrying strap «0 lies between the upper leather 4 and the padding 3. Due to the fact that the padding 3 is slightly resilient, the strap 9 will be frictionally held in the pad and thus held against accidental displacement. The pad- 65 ding 3 also assists in protecting the wearer’s shoulder.

It will also be seen that the set of slots 6 prevents the strap from slipping laterally of the shoulder at the top, while the’pairs of 70 slots 5 and 7 keep the strap and pad ends properly located.
