It is important rhatt.hn cmrML· _____> i .-. Λ.... J not wear the cable so that it wilfbe fairly 65 Sv. against dropping away when the that it will not rattle. These are features are embodied m a measure in the saddle yi in the application Serial No. 659,449 70 and also in the improved saddle shown and
—. _ X-.------“. '
Lilis saddle comprises a major plate x and a minor plate y. The cable is looped ο^θΐ- the r°Iis h after they have been riv- 75 eted to the major plate x and also up through the notches i in the bent-over top flange of the major plate. The minor plate y is then riveted to the roll studs and consequently locks the cable tightly to the saddle. This is 8(1 shown well in Fig. 7. The rolls need not rotate; their purpose is simply to give a good rounded surface of ample arc'where the cable enters the saddle This is the point at which relative movement takes place be- 85 ween the cable and the saddle and where if there is an angular surface the cable will soon saw itself m two. The rolls avoid any trouble on this score. 1
The .saddle has also riveted to it a window- 0θ spporting pin j on which engages the slidable and rotatable bushing k provided with the annular groove m. This annular groove is adapted to receive the sash plate w which is provided with an L shaped slot, which 06 permits the assembly of the sash plate over the bushing.
, With chain regulators it has been customary to use simply a U-like clip attached to one of the chain links and a pin for supporting the window. A bushing has also been used. The chain link is locked to the sprocket wheel in climbing over the sprocket and consequently the pin is dependably held m place so that when the sash plate is x, °Ver the Pin to assemble the sash to the chain no difficulty is found in the way of the pin twisting awav from the sash plate. However, with a cable, the pm will turn and twist, consequently it τη τϊ7 · msu upon cue came.
Ihe saddle is adapted to be stopped at the top and bottom of the permissable movemept of the window by positive stops.

Cable window regulators are not broadly new. A great many of them have been designed. but a large number of them are subject to infirmities due to the wearing of the cables and also the fact that the drive on the cable is not positive.
It is the object of the present invention to provide an improved saddle which will recluce the wear on the cable to a minimum.
Ihe general details of the regulator such as the arrangement of the drum a, the driving spool b, and the run of the cable c, are not . made the subject of this application, as the same are claimed in. a copendirig ap1)0 plication Serial No. 659,449. In a window regulator, the combination of a cable,, a drum over which the t cable winds, said- drum provided with an annular flange, and a saddle, comprising a - major plate, a pair of rolls supported on flraftflnemlier. a flanged drum over studs riveted . to the major A. J^g®
Wiiclfl'O draft member runs^ and a flange- portion of the- major plate protruding bewould be very difficult to assemble the sash : plate onto the regulator as fis necessary on the job. The custom is to first attach tne regulator to the lock board and foot board 5 and then the windows are often put m after the job has been trimmed and painted. It is necessary then to drop them down through the top slot of the window well, and there must be some reliable 10 way of finding and holding the pin so as to slip the sash plate in place The saddle that I have designed accomplishes this purpose, as the major plate drops clear down over the side of the drum as shown m I ig.
δ, while the rolls ride over the top of tne drum. The flange n on the periphery of the drum rides in between the major plate and the rolls. This causes the saddle to ride tne flange and not the cable and flience relieves the cable of the weight, or the sash. Ihis is a very important point as it makes the cable of sufficiently long life to bepractical.
Obviously, the large amount of plate at the side of the drum and the flange n will 25 prevent the rolls from twisting oft the top of the drum. This serves to anchor the pin from retreating from the sash plate as the sash plate is pushed down into tne window well to locate the pin m the sash plate slot, 30 shown in Fig. 4. . ,. .

take place, but to avoid this I use a bowed spriim o which is looped over the mei-al plate between two pairs of struck out lugs q. ihis takes takes up any looseness and prevents chattering. „ , , , ,,
Secured to the top, of the regulator plate r is a stop pin s. This stops the saddle alter the pin has slightly passed the vertical center line of the drum. The consequence is that in this position, the regulator is. locked from any actuation originating with the sash, as obviously the saddle cannot force the pin and this is the only way the drum can be turned by such actuation after the saddle has passed the vertical center line. When the sash reaches the downward limit of its movement, another stop t which is an integral part of the pulley-carrying yoke u stops the sash plate.
