HEAD-REST TO BE USED IN RAILWAY-CARS.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 15,581, dated August 19, 1856.

To dll whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Wm. B. Slaughter, of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and 5 useful article, which I have designated by the name of a “ Personal-Attachment HeadRest,” for the use of night travelers by railroad and others; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact 10 description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this description.

A, Β, B, is a yoke fitted to the shoulders 15 and held firmly to its place by the girth G, which is attached to the extremities of the shoulder straps of the yoke Β, B. The pad D is designed to receive the head and is supported by the standard C, to which it is 20 attached by the hinge h, h. The object of the hinge h, Λ, is to allow the pad D to adjust itself exactly to the position of the head. The standard G is inserted into the socket S in the posterior part of the yoke A. The parts A, and Β, B, of the yoke at 25 Β, B, are united by a joint at I, I, for the purpose of making the whole more portable. The object of the yoke A, Β, B, is to form a base for the standard C, and-as such, it derives its firmness from its attachment to 30 the person by means of the girth G, passing under the arms and buckling behind the body.
