Bath brush

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known -that Ida La Bbee, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of Cali5 fornia, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bath Brushes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a. bath brush and has for its principal object to provide a,bath 10 brush in which the brush is adapted to contain a soap and water, while the same is being used and also provide and save considerable time in obtaining a good lather.

Another object of the invention is to pro15 vide a bath brush. of the above mentioned character, which will hold soap and water in separate compartments the brush being adapted to receive the soapy water from the compartment containing the soap and water 20 so as to allow the bristles to become thoroughly lathered whenever it is desired to use the brush.

A still further object of the invention, is to provide a bath brush of the above men25 tioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, durable, and well adapted for the purpose, for which it is designated.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparaent during the ³⁰ course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like, parts throughout the same,

Figure 1 is a central vertical section showing the soap contained in one of the compartments and the brush member supported in the other compartment.

In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 50 designates the receptacle which is open at both ends and arranged within the receptacle 1 is a division plate 2. This division plate 2 is formed in the receptacle and integrally therewith adjacent the lower por55 tion of the receptacle as more clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

The division plate 2 is provided with a central longitudinal slot 3 the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described. This plate 2 divides the receptacle 60 into an upper compartment 4 and a lower compartment 5. The upper compartment 4 is adapted to receive a piece of soap or other cleaning element 6 and also receive a quantity of water either hot or cold, which- 65 ever is so desired. A suitable cover 7 is provided for the receptacle,, the same being oval-shaped in plan and having its upper portion convexed, the peripheral edges of the same being bent inwardly and thence 70 downwardly to form depending flanges. These flanges are designed to fit snugly within the inner walls of the upper compartment or receptacle. The bending inwardly of the peripheral edges of the upper portion of the 75 cover to form the depending flanges provides a peripheral shoulder which is adapted to rest upon the upper peripheral edge of the upper compartment or receptacle 1. This shoulder projects beyond the recep- ⁸⁰taele and permits the same being readily removed when desired. This construction is clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.

Adapted to be seated within the lower compartment 5 of the receptacle 1 is the ⁸⁵brush head 8. This brush head 8 is provided with the usual tufts or bristles 9 which is of the usual construction and further details relating thereto are not thought necessary to be described in the present instance. 90

The brush head fits snugly into the compartment 5 so that the back of the brush head will lie flush against the bottom face of the division plate 2. In the back of the brush head 8 is provided a longitudinal 05 slot for the purpose of communicating with the central longitudinal slot 3 formed in the division plate 2 and communicating with this longitudinal groove 10 formed in the back of the brush head 8 are a plurality or 100 series of transverse perforations or conduits 11.

These perforations or conduits 11 are arranged with relation to the longitudinal groove 10 formed in the back of the brush 105 head 8 in such a manner that the soapy water which comes from the chamber or compartment 4 through the central longitudinal slot 3 formed in the division plate 2 will cause the water to pass through the HQ perforations 11 and onto and communicate with the bristles or tufts 9,

At one end of the receptacle 1 I provide a flanged portion 12 which is internally threaded to receive a suitable handle 13 which is provided with a threaded reduced a portion 14 which is adapted to communicate with the internally threaded flange 12 whereby the bath brush may be conveniently used.

In use the cover is removed from the compartment 4 and the cake of soap 6 is 10 placed in the compartment 4 and water is added in the compartment as is necessary. The cover 7 is then slightly inserted into the compartment 4 and is frictionally held therein. By taking the receptacle 1 by the 15 handle 13 which has been threaded into the flanged portion 12 of the receptacle 1 and oscillating or shaking the receptacle 1 together with the soap and water contained in the compartment 4 a few times, the water 20 and soap coming together will cause soap suds to be formed and while the soap suds are being formed the same will be allowed to pass through the opening 3 formed in the division plate 2 and then passed into the 25 longitudinal groove 10 formed in the back of the brush head 8 and passed therefrom into the series of perforations 11 and out onto the bristles 9.

It will thus be seen that a person can use 30 a bath brush of the above mentioned character, without the necessity of having to hold a cake of soap in one hand and the brush in the other while the same are beingused and furthermore will save considerable 35 time in obtaining the lather. It is only necessary to refill the compartment 4 with water in order that the brush may be used continuously.

A brush of this character can also be used 40 not only for a bath brush but also for any other suitable means which may be found necessary. With a brush of the above mentioned character its usefulness can be readily understood and the facility of its simplicity 45 can also be appreciated.

From the foregoing description of the construction of my improved apparatus, it will be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive and efficient means for carrying out the objects of the invention, and while 5» I have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion, and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to, without 55 departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.
