Pocket case for cigarettes, cigars, or the like

J Application filed August 11, 1922. -Serial No. 581,254. · ; '1o dll whom it may concern.· \ Be it known that I, Jacob Goerk, a citizen of the United States, residing, at Irvington, in the county of Essex and State of ⁵ New Jersey, have invented certain, hew arid useful Improvements in Pocket Cases, for Cigarettes, Cigars, or the like, of which the following is a specification. / The present invention appertains to im^ll) provements in pocket cases made of leather or similar.material and designed especially to carry cigarettes, cigars or other articles, the object in view being to provide a container having compartments or pockets on ¹⁵ opposite sides of a Common wall, the construction of which being symmetrical, gives to the case the same finished appearance on both sides.

. It is further an object to provide a rela²⁰ lively thin case, for a given capacity, each of the compartments or pockets having a closing flap, and the pockets and flaps all being connected, to a common stiffening wall _ by a single row of stitching around the pe²⁵ riphery of the case.

With the above and other objects in view, the. invention consists in certain combinations and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear as the description pro³⁰ ceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates the central wall of the case, the material of which may be cardboard or any other similar material possessing a fair amount. of ⁵⁵ stiffness. To the opposite surfaces of this wall is applied a thin covering 2 of the usual lining material used in tlie construction of pocket books or cases. Ori each side of the central wall is arranged k pocket or compartments having at its edges an expansible 60 bellows connection 4 with the wall; ‘arid- each of the pockets is closed by a corresponding flap 5 designed to be held in closed position by means of a snap fastener 6. Furtherriiorei bach cornpartment or Rocket is pro- 65. vided ’ with an inner connector-piece 7 arranged substantially centrally and primarily ^c: for the purpose of affording a support to hold the cigarettes or cigars in upright, accessible position when some are displaced. .70

The construction of the article will be quite apparent from the drawing by reference more particularly to the diagrammatic showings in Figures 3, 6 a,nd 7. Preferably the lateral and bottom edges of one of the 75 pockets are extended so as to fold over the meeting edges of the opposite pocket and the central wall, as indicated at 8, and the flaps are similarly formed so that one will have.an infolding edge 9. All of these edges 80 are usually skived to a very material degree ^;and atttached preliminarily by an adhesive. Then a single row of stitching 10 is run completely around the periphery of the case, as shown in Figure 1, connecting all of the 85 parts firmly and permanently together. Metal corner protectors 11 of any desired finish are then preferably secured at all corners. The result is a case of the . class described which has the same appearance on oo both sides and affords double capacity without undue bulkiness, i The cigarettes, if it is adapted for holding the same, are arranged in each pocket after the manner shown in Figure 1 and the pocket side being 95 cut away, the cigarettes may be readily displaced from their compartment by opening the flap therefor.

It will be understood that the case may be made in various shapes and sizes, depend- .100ing upon the purpose for which it is designed to be used.

- It will be observed in Figure 5 that the flaps and pockets iriay be reversely arranged, although this in no wise alters the method 105 of construction of the case, except that each of the flaps is formed with an enfolding extension for binding at the ends.

In Figure 6 the construction is slightly modified in that the flaps are in the form ¹¹⁰of a single, blank folded and secured along a central line, but this form does not lend
