Pennant embodying picture frame

Be it known that I, Cinco 8. Oda, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State 5 of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pennant Embodying Picture Frames, of which the fol* lowing is a specification.

This invention relates to pennants, and the 10 primary object of the invention is to provide an improved means for supporting and holding a picture or photograph upon the pennant body, so that one of the college athlete’s picture may be made a' part of 15 the pennant.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved means for detachably holding a picture in position on a- pennant . body so that the same can be removed and 20 another substituted therefor when desired.

A still further obj eet of the invention is to provide an improved pennant having a picture frame and picture associated therewith which is formed of flexible material, so as to 25 permit the waving of the pennant on a- field or other. place of college or fraternity activities.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved device of the above 30 character which is durable and efficient in use, one that is simple and easy to manufacture, and one which can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.

associated therewith for the reception of a picture or photograph C.

The pennant A includes a body 5 formed Or flexible material, such as felt or the like haying the usual triangular shape, but it is co to be understood that the same may be made in any preferred shape, or form and the body 5 is provided with the name 6 of the college, fraternity or other organization. The inner edge of the pennant body 5 is provided with C5 a reinforcing strip 7 having the usual attaching strips 8 secured thereto whereby the pennant may be attached to a· pole or cane 9.

The frame B includes substantially rectangular open body 10, which is secured at 70 its outer edge to the pennant body by suitable stitches 11. By stitching the outer edge of the open body 10 to the body 5 of the pennant, inwardly extending free flanges 12 are provided behind which the picture C is 75 adapted to be confined. A flexible thin strip or film of celluloid, isinglass or. the like may oe positioned in front of the picture C and engagement with the inwardly extending flanges 12, for forming a protection for the 80 picture C and if so desired, the transparent strip 13 may be secured by suitable stitches 14 to the inner edge of the flanges 12 of the frame 10.

The body 5 of the pennant A is provided 85 with .a horizontal slit 15 which extends substantially the width of the open body 10 adj acent to the upper end thereof and forms means whereby the picture G may be readily inserted in the pocket formed by the body ’δ (Ό of the pennant and the opened body 10' of the frame.

The picture C is preferably printed on relatively thin flexible paper and may be of any desired member of a foot ball team, or ⁹⁵other notable of. the college or other organization. Owing to the extreme simplicity of the frame, and the fact that only one additional ply of material is necessary to form the frame, the frame may be made -θθ very cheaply and the relative thinness of the frame and pennant will permit the same to readily flex, to permit the pennant or banner to be rolled or waved upon a field when desired. 105
