lesser diameter than the inner one, and therefore converging at the sides in a comparatively sharp edge la. Said retainer is provided with pilot lugs lb adapted to receive the blade 2 which is provided with holes 2a conforming therewith and adapted to slip over the Ings lb of said blade retainer 1. Said retainer is further provided with a threaded boss 1® in the central portion on the inner side thereof. A guard member 3 of similar shape is provided which is provided with teeth at the outer curved edges thereof for protecting the edge of the blade 2. Said guard member 3 is provided with holes 3b and 3C adapted to receive the pilot lugs lb and the threaded boss lc of the blade retainer 1. A ball nut 4 provided with an internally threaded hole 4a and a flange 4b is adapted to be screwed over the threaded boss lc of the retainer 1 and clamping the blade 2 between said retainer and said guard member. The ball nut 4 is further provided with a ball portion 4C at its outer end. The handle 5 is provided with a spherical shaped recess 5a adapted to receive the ball portion 4C of said ball nut within said recess and retain the same by the claws 5a extending beyond the opposite centers of the spherical recess and being depressed against said ball portion 4®. The handle 5 is knurled at 5b to prevent the handle of the razor slipping out of the hand and is further provided with a reduced portion 5° to further aid in gripping and guiding the razor. The handle 5 is provided with a hole 5® extending longitudinally through the center of said handle and is further provided with an internally threaded portion 5f concentric with said first mentioned hole. A friction screw 6 is provided consisting of a threaded portion 6b and a reduced shank portion 6° adapted to engage the ball portion 4® of the ball nut 4 and adapted to be received by the internally threaded portion 5f and the hole 5® in the handle δ. Be it known that I, Gustaf Adolf Reiter, a citizen of the Republic of Germany, residing at San Diego, in the county of San 5 Diego and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Safety Razor, ' of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to safety razors, more particularly to- a handle for safety razors and the objects of my invention are: First, to provide a razor in which the handle can be turned to most any convenient angle with respect to its cutting edge so that all the hairy parts of the face and neck are readily and conveniently accessible when shaving one’s self; second, to provide a razor in which the handle can be turned to any desired angle and secured in such position; third, to provide a razor handle of this class which may be made applicable to nearly all makes of safety razors; fourth, to provide a handle of this class which is applicable to devices in which variable, angular adjustment is necessary; fifth, to provider a novelly constructed safety razor handle and sixth, to provide a safety razor handle which is very simple and economical of construction, durable, easy to adjust and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the character of reference thereon which form a part of this application, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of my razor showing an end view of the razor portion; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through 2—2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is another side view of my razor with the handle turned at 45 an angle with respect to the razor portion and Fig. 4 is-another side view thereof with the razor portion at a right angle to that ing the same, of Fig. 3 but with the handle turned re volubly with respect to the axis and also at an angle with the razor portion.
The blade retainer 1, blade 2, guard member 3, ball nut 4, handle 5, and friction screw 6 constitute the principal parts and portions of my razor.
The blade retainer 1 is preferably a curved plate as shown, the outer surface being of
IS s® so :40 (50
It is obvious that when the ball end of said friction screw is disengaged froni the handle 5 by unscrewing the same, the shank 6° thereof is also disengaged from the ball portion 4® of the ball nut 4, thus allowing the handle to be turned at any convenient angle with respect to the., razor portion and is retained in such positions by screwing the friction screw in th© proper direction

1,452,002 and allowing the shank 6C to engage said ball portion again.
Although I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and ar5 rangement of parts and portions I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrange10 ment substantially as set -forth in the appended claims.
