Picture hook

Be it known that I, Georges Charles Auguste Giroux, a British subject, residing at #321 Demontigny Street East, in the 5 city of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture Hooks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact de10 scription of the same.

The present invention relates to improvements in picture hooks, and its main object is to provide a device of this character in which the cord will be held firmly in place, 15 thus preventing the picture from displacing itself due· to vibrations or shocks.

The invention will be readily understood with the aid of the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:— 20 Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hook according to the invention.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of a hook according to a modified form of the invention.

Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.

Referring to the drawings, 1 is a hook of the usual type used to hang pictures. This hook usually comprises a lower curved por30 tion 2 in which the picture cord 3 is supported and an oppositely curved portion 4 which is secured to the Avail moulding, the two curved portions 2 and 4 being connected by an approximately vertical portion, as 35 shown. In the curved portion 2 is rigidly secured at its front end a spring member or tongue 5, said spring projecting rearwardly along the curved portion 2 and being preferably curved in conformity with the por40 tion 2 so that it tends to normally lie immediately against the same, and having its free rear end 6 terminating adjacent the lower end of the vertical connecting portion and bent outwardly away from that portion.

In Figure 1 of the dr.aAvings, the flat 45 spring 5 is outAvardly curved and bent to form a shoulder 7.

The picture cord 3, in the form illustrated in Figure 1, is first placed on said shoulder 7,.after which the picture is adjusted so as 50 to be in perfect plane, and when this is done, by pulling the picture dowmvardly, the cord 3 will be made to enter between the curved portion 2 and the flat spring 5. The pressure of the spring on the cord 3 will 55 maintain same rigidly in place.

In Figure 2 of the ylrawings, the modification consists in eliminating the shoulder 7 of the spring 5.

In this form of hook the cord 3 is im- 60 mediately engaged between the spring 5 and . the hook portion 2. The outwardly curved portion 6 of the spring 5 facilitates the insertion of the cord 3.
