Traveling-bag

Be it known that I, Frank H. White, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gwynedd, county of Montgomery, and State 5 of Pennsylvania, have invented, a new and useful Improvement in Traveling-Bags; of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part 10 of this specification.

My invention relates to traveling bags of the fitted type.

Heretofore fitted bags have been open to a number of serious objections, overcoming in l δ great part the alleged convenience afforded. Chief among the objections are that the articles comprising the fittings are found to be relatively inaccessible after the bag is packed and can only be removed for use after the ²⁰ bag has been partially or wholly unpacked, or by disarranging and upsetting the other articles in the bag. Further, it is found that certain of the articles comprising the fittings, as hair brushes, are damaged by being ²⁵ squeezed between the bag and the articles packed therein, while certain other articles, which are liable to breakage, are a menace to the clothing, etc., with which the bag may be packed.

⁸⁰ It is also found that the fittings appreciably reduce the effective capacity of the present type of bag.

My invention has for its object to provide a bag fitted with any desired variety of ’“ toilet articles and so constructed that the toilet articles will be thoroughly protected from damage and readily available for use, at any time, without disturbing the contents of the bag and at the same time constructed ^υ in such a manner that the fittings will not appreciably diminish the capacity of the bag, nor affect the symmetry of its external appearance.

_4δ I will now proceed to. describe my invention in detail in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which like symbols refer to similar parts in the various views and in which—

Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the body of ⁶⁵the bag a is secured to the ordinary type of frame &, provided with a lock c afid fasteners d.

In one side of the bag is formed a recess or compartment e. Loops f are secured to ⁷⁰the back of the recess for the reception of brushes and various other toilet articles.

A cover g, of a size to fit tightly against the bag when it is closed and adapted to close the recess and protect the articles con- ⁷⁵tained therein, is secured along its lower edge to the body of the bag, on a line below the bottom of the recess. The upper end of the cover is cut out to form flaps h, adapted to extend over the frame and inside the bag. ⁸⁰The flaps are provided with eyelets i and slots j. Fasteners k are secured within the bag at a point to engage eyelets i, slots j being engaged by fasteners d. A tab Z, prefer- ₈₅ably attached to the cover g, is provided for ° opening the bag.

Referring to Fig. 4, a recess or compartment wis formed in the side of the bag body n, similar to recess e. A cover o is fastened ₈₀along its upper edge to the body of the bag above the recess and provided near its lower edge with eyelets p. Fasteners r are secured to the bag body to hold the cover in place.

Referring to Figs. 5, 6 and 7, the body of 95 ® the bag s is secured to the ordinary type of frame t, provided with fastening devices u. In the side of the bag is formed the recess or compartment v, similar to recesses e and m. A cover w is fastened along its lower 100 edge to the body of the bag, below the recess, and is adapted to close the recess. Fasteners x, formed of light metal covered with leather and secured to the upper edge of the cover, are shaped to conform to and grip 105 the frame Z, of the bag, and hold the cover in place.

Ω ers k engaged with the inside wall of the bag, or by means of the fasteners x engaged with the frame t of the bag. The bag is then closed and the cover is drawn tightly 5 against the. side of the bag over the recess, due to the increase in the distance from the point of attachment of the cover to the frame, when the bag is closed.

In the modification shown in Fig. 4/ the 10 cover is merely fastened down, the closing of the bag drawing it tight.

. It will be obvious from the above description that the toilet articles are readily made accessible, by merely unfastening the cover, 15 without in any way disturbing the contents of the bag proper.

. It will also be obvious that instead of providing the recess or compartment with holders for toilet articles, it may be arranged 20 and adapted for the reception of any other articles.
