Be it known that I, Erwin W. Bruns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tower City, in the county of Cass and btate 5 of North Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Seats, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to seats for wagons and the principal object of the invention is 10 to provide a spring supported seat with means for connecting it to the front end of the wagon body so that it will remain in position while the body is in dumped position. . ,. .,

Another object of the invention is to provide a foot rest formed to support the laprobe and a foot warmer. .

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the 20 combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. . ...-1 _f

In describing my invention in detail, reterence will be had to the accompariying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:—

Figure 1 is a front view of a seat constructed in accordance with my invention and showing it engaged with the front end of a wagon, this portion of the wagon being shown in dotted lines.

Fig. 2 is an end view of one of the seat supporting members. .

Fig. 3 is an end view with parts in section and parts broken away.

Figs. 4 and 5 are detail views. .

As shown in these views the seat A is supported by a pair of seat supporting devices B which engage with the front end of the wagon body. Each device comprises an inverted U-shaped member 1. formed of 45 strap iron or the like for embracing the end piece of the wagon. One limb of this member carries a pair of clamps 2 while tne other limb is extended first at right angles, as at 3, then bent upwardly at an incline 50 as at 4, and then bent again to provide the brace 5 which has its end connected with the upper part of said limb. The portions 3 and 4 support the foot rest 6. .

A tube 7 is supported by the flange 2, said 55 flange being caused to grip the tube by the screw bolts 8. The bottom of the tube is notched as at 9 to receive the flattened end of the tube 10, the two tubes being connected together by the bolt 11. _ The tube 10 has its lower part extended at right angles from 60 the tube 7 for a short distance and then the tube, is bent so that it extends upwardly at an angle. A coiled spring 12 is located in each tube and the bracket supporting bars 13 have their lower ends entering said tubes 65 and engaging the springs. The upper ends of the bars are pivotally supported to the bracket or plate 14 by which the. seat boards are connected. The plate 14 is provided with a web 15 on its under side and the 70 upper ends of the rods 13 are notched to receive the enlarged portions of this and the pivot pins 16 pass through these notched ends and the web. . .

It will thus be seen that the springs will 75 yieldingly support the seat so as to relieve the occupant of the seat from the shocks and jars. The seat may be adjusted by means of the clamps so as to have the foot rest the proper distance from the seat. The tor- 80 mation of this rest will act to hold the robe and the foot warmer in proper position and when the body is dumped the parts will remain in the rest. The seat will also remain in engagement with the body when the same is dumped. .

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and m the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope, of the appended claims.
