Combined bracket and clamp

Be it known that I, Asa Allan H. Griffin, a citizen of the United States, residing at Butler, in the county of Butler and State 5 of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Brackets and Clamps, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention is particularly 10 adapted to a combined shade and curtain bracket and has for its primary object to provide an adjustable article of this character which may be easily and quickly attached to a window casing without danger 15 of inflicting injury thereto, and without the employment of nails, screws or analogous securing devices.

While the improvement is primarily directed as a shade and curtain support, it is 20 an object of the invention to produce such an article which may be employed in other connections where an adjustable device may. be used for clamping a screen or the. like between the sides of the frame, wherein in25 jury to the screen or frame will not be inflicted.

It is a further object of the invention to produce a device of this nature which shall be of an extremely simple construction, 30 cheap to manufacture, easily applied and readily attached as occasion requires.

Other objects and advantages will present themselves as the nature, of the invention is better understood, reference being had to the 35 accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a view illustrating the improvement on a window, casing.

As disclosed by the drawings, my im45 provement contemplates the employment of two adjustable members, one being in the nature of a tube or hollow member which is indicated by the numeral 5, and the other designed to be received in the member 5. 50 The last mentioned member is indicated by the numeral 6 and is preferably, but not necessarily in the nature of a. cross sectionally round rod. The member 5, at spaced points thereon has threaded openings 55 through which pass the shanks of binding screws 7 that contact with the member 6 to hold the same adjusted with respect to the member 5.

On the member 5, at the outer end thereof are pivotally secured, as at 8 the ear portions 60 9 of a channeled or hollow head 10. The head has on its outer and flat face a compressible element 11.

To the outer end of the member 6 are pivotally secured as at 12 the sides of a lever 65 13. This lever has its outer end pivotally secured, as at 14, to ears 15 formed upon the sides of a hollow head 16. The head 16 is similar to the head previously described, having on its outer flat face one or more ⁷⁰compressible elements 17.

It will be apparent that by swinging the lever to one position the head'16 may be arranged at an angle with respect to the tele·: scopic support, and by swinging the lever 75 over the member 5 the head will be swung into tight contact with one of the sides of a window casing 20. .Both of the heads may have secured thereon curtain holding shade roller brackets 21 and curtain brackets 22. 80

While the device, as previously stated, is primarily devised as an adjustable support for curtain brackets, it will be apparent that the same, as also previously stated, may be employed in other connections when it is 85 desired that an element, such as a beaded wire sheet is to be clamped in a frame. In this instance two or more of the devices are employed, one at the top and the other at the bottom of the frame and the other, if 90 found necessary, intermediate of the frame. . The compressible elements on the heads prevent marring of the frame, regardless of a high polish thereon, or regardless of the softness of the wood, and it is believed, from the 95 foregoing· description, when taken in connection with the drawings, the simplicity of the construction and the advantages thereof will be readily apparent without further detailed. description. 100
