Be it known that I, Clarence W. Kinsman, citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York 5 and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Mirrors, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a mirror holder 10 and has for its object the production of a simple and efficient mirror holder whereby the mirror may be adjusted to different heights to suit the convenience of the user.

Another object of this invention is the 15 production of a simple and efficient means for supporting a mirror in an adjusted position, and locking the same against accidental movement.

With these and other objects in view, this 20 invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that 1 designates the mirror, which may 45 be of ordinary construction and the guiding plate 2 is secured to the rear face of the mirror as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings. It should be understood that one or more guiding plates may be used in con50 nection with the present invention without departing from the spirit thereof although two guiding plates are shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings. Each guiding plate 2 is provided, with laterally extending ears 3 55 through which ears 3 pass the securing pins 4 for firmly securing a guiding plate 2 to the frame 1. Each guiding plate 2 is also provided with rearwardly extending flanges 5 at the respective ends thereof and these flanges 5 are provided with apertures 6 60 formed therein for permitting the supporting rods 7, to pass therethrough. Each plate 2 is also provided with a centrally located lug 8 which is formed integral with the plate 2 and each lug 8 is provided with 6 5 an aperture 9 through which the supporting rod 7 also passes. A locking screw 10 is also carried near the lower end of each plate 2 and this locking screw is adapted to firmly hold the plate 2 in an adjusted posi- 70 tion.

As shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 4 a plurality of these supporting rods 7 are used and each supporting rod is provided with an inwardly extending neck at the top thereof terminat- 75 mg in an upwardly extending flattened foot , 12 having suitable apertures 13 formed therein for receiving securing pins 14 which pins are. adapted to hold the rods in engagement with a support. The lower end of 80 each of these rods 7 fits in a socket 15 formed m a socket plate 16. These socket plates 16 are adapted to fit snugly against a support and engage the lower ends of the rods 7 for . holding these rods in proper 85 spaced relation with respect to a support.

In Fig. .6 there is shown a modified form of the guiding bracket used in connection with, the present invention wherein the guiding bracket is formed from a blank sheet 90 of material and is provided with upper and. lower flanges 17 at its respective ends having apertures 18 formed therein for receiving the guiding, rod 7. The bracket 19 is also provided with an inwardly struck 95 loop portion 20 having transversely extending bridge portions 21 formed thereon. These bridge portions 21 are provided with apertures 22 formed therein which apertures 22 are in alinement with the apertures 18 100 formed in the flanges .17. The bracket 19 is also provided with suitable apertures 23 for the purpose of permitting securing pins to pass therethrough and firmly hold the bracket 19 in engagement with a mirror or 105 other article which is adapted to be supported thereby. A binding screw 24 is also carried by the bracket 19 and is adapted to engage the. rod 7 shown in dotted lines for firmly holding the bracket against accidental 110 sliding movement.

In view of the fact that the bracket 19

1,287,699 is formed of sheet metal, it should be understood that the frictional engagement thereof with the rod 7 will hold the bracket temporarily in a set position due to the fact that 5 the rod 7 is adapted to fit snugly within the apertures IS and 22 formed in the bracket 19.

In Fig. 7 there is shown a still further modified form of the bracket which may be 1° used in connection with the present invention and this bracket 25 is formed of a twisted piece of flat steel terminating in inwardly extending end flanges 26 which end flanges are provided with apertures 27 ¹⁵ through which the rod 7 shown in dotted lines is adapted to pass. The twisted portion 28 of the bracket 25 is also provided with an aperture 29 which aperture is placed in alinement with the apertures 27 for permit²⁰ ting the rod 7 to pass therethrough. _ Suitable apertures 30 are also formed in the bracket 25 near its respective ends for permitting the bracket to be secured to the rear face of the mirror or other article to ²⁵ be supported thereby. A binding screw 31 also passes through a bracket 25 and is adapted to firmly engage the rod 7 .for locking the bracket in engagement with the rod 7. . . . .,,

From the foregoing description it will be seen that a very simple and efficient device has been produceci for supporting a mirror, such as a shaving mirror in an ad35 justed position to suit the convenience of the user.

It should be of course understood that certain obvious detail mechanical changes may be made in the present device without departing from the spirit of the invention, 40 so long as these changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
