Music-leaf turner.

Be it known that we, John J. Baumeister and Joseph M. Munning, citizens of the United States, residing at Michigan City, in 5 the county of Laporte, State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music-Leaf Turners; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, 10 such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a music leaf turner.

An object of the invention resides in the provision of a device by means of which a plurality of sheets of music may be turned and which is so constructed that the turning operation will be automatic.

A further object of the invention resides in the provision of means within the control of the operator for controlling the turning of the sheets of music.

A further object resides in the provision 25 of a device which may be readily attached to and detached from the music rack of a piano.

A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of a simple and inex30 pensive device of the character specified.

With these and other objects in view, such as will appear as the description progresses, our invention comprising the combination and arrangement of parts as set forth in and 35 falling within the scope of the appended claims.

The embodiment of the invention illus50 trated in the drawing includes a pair of frames one of which illustrated at 1, consists of a continuous piece of wire, one end of which is provided with a loop 2 and the other end of which extends through the loop 55 and is turned laterally as shown at 3. The second frame, shown at 4 is substantially U shaped and the upper end of it is provided with an eye which pivotally engages the bar 5 of the section 1, at 6. The lower end of this section 4 is hinged to the bar 5, through 60 the medium of a terminal eye, disposed between the loop 2 and the bill 3. These sections 1 and 4 are provided with depressed seats 7, 8 and 9 respectively, formed in their lower end portions. In these seats clamping 65 members 10, 11 and 12 are pivotally mounted, which members are formed from resilient wire and are provided with felt covered gripping jaws 13 which are adapted to engage the music rack of the piano so that the 70 frame will be supported thereon. A plurality of U-shaped sheet supporting members 14 are hinged to the bar 5 at their upper ends by terminal loops which encircle the bar. The lower ends of these members 75 14 terminate short of the bar and in superposed relation. Secured at one end to the bar 5 which they encircle are coil springs 15 which are, at their other ends, secured to the ends of the corresponding members 14. 80 The tendency of these springs is to throw the members 14, which are provided with clips 16 for the attachment of the sheets of music, from the section 4 to the section 1.

In order that this action may be con- 85 trolled, we have pivoted, on an extension 17 of the section 4, a trip member 18 which is provided with a bill 19. This, bill is adapted to successively engage fingers 20 that depend from the members 14, and is 90 held into engagement with these members by a compression spring 21 which is secured to the trip member 18 and to the member 12.

In operation the sheets of music are placed on the members 14, one being at- 95 tached to each member by the clip 16 on the member. The members are then turned so that they are superposed on one another and lie over the section 4 in which position they are retained by the bill 19. 100

When it is desired to turn one of the sheets it is only necessary for the operator to strike the grip member 18 at which time the bill 19 will be disengaged from the uppermost member 14 and it will be allowed to 105 swing, under the influence of its actuating spring 15, over the section 1, the remainder of the members 14 being prevented from moving by the bill 19 which immediately returns to its initial position under the ac- 110 tion of the spring 21.
