Stamp-rack.

Be it known that I, Augustin Bui-il, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Worth, in the county of Tarrant and State g of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stamp-Racks, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to racks and more particularly to racks for bread stamps, and JO the object is to provide a simple and useful rack which will carry a spool of stamps in convenient reach of the user or operator.

The present practice is to take a string of stamps from the supply of stamps and then 15 put them on the bread. This takes the time of the workmen because they have to leave the work and go to the supply source (usually the stamp rolls are hung on the wall) and then go back to the work with a 20 string of stamps trailing downward and frequently in the way of the operator. I have provided a convenient rack which can be hung on the operator’s belt or on the waist of the trousers or on other hanging 25 devices in a position which is convenient for the operator to tear off one stamp at a time without appreciable loss of time.

Other objects and advantages will be fully explained in the following description and 30 the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claims.

Reference is had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application.

.Figure 1 is a perspective view of the rack with a spool or roll of stamps mounted thereon.. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the frame without the brace, showing the manner of mounting the stamps on the spindle.

The rack frame is preferably made of a single length of wire. The ends of the wire are placed together to bind them together and at a distance from the end, one arm of the wire is formed into a loop and then 45 twisted to form a spindle 1 with an eye 2 at the end of the spindle. The two wires are then further extended and twisted to form one side 3 of the frame. One arm of the wire is then extended laterally and 50 formed into another part 4 of the frame and an eye 5 is formed in the outer end of the part 4 and a slot 6 is formed between the two parts of the wire. Two arms of the wire are then further extended and twisted 55 together, to form a connection and then formed into a hanger for the rack. The wire members are first spread and then . extended upwardly parallel to each other or substantially parallel to each other to a suitable distance. The two arms are then go bent downwardly parallel to the parts 5- and then bent to form the connecting bar 6 to complete the hanger. To prevent the roll 7. of stamps from leaving the spindle, a guard member 8 is provided with one long arm 55 and one short arm. The long arm is inserted in the eyes 2 and 5 to hold the roll of stamps on the rack. The short arm rests on the eye to make the guard project above the eye 5 and also bears against the long 70 arm at the lower end of the short arm to form a loop to prevent the guard from being removed from the eye 5. The guard is thus securely attached to the rack whether in operative position or out of operative position, 75 and may be removed from the eye 2 for the purpose of placing a roll of stamps thereon. A brace 9 is placed on the hanger to strengthen the hanger and hold it rigid.

The brace 9 consists of a piece of sheet metal 80 having the edges bent and clamped on the bars 5. The roll of stamps is placed on the spindle as shown in Fig. 1, and the strip or string of stamps is run up through the slot in the cut-off member. The strip or string 85 of stamps is perforated between each two stamps so that the stamp which is drawn through slot can be torn off after being pulled through the slot. When a roll of stamps has been used up, a new roll can be 90 placed on the spindle by removing the guard member as shown in Fig. 2.
