It is well known in practice that golf balls provided with brambles are not always per• iectly round, due to the manner in which 20 the same are molded. In other words, it has heretofore been the usual practice to provide the golf ball cup with openings or recesses to form the brambles on the ball; but these recesses or depressions in the cup have ²⁵ 1° ^e’^tbcr be cut by hand or by machine, the depth of the cutting depending largely upon the manipulation of the operator or the machine, and it is extremely difficult, and frequently impossible, to get them all of the 30 same depth. Consequently, when the ball is “°^Ided / ,^1S ”^{ot a}, Perfectly round ball, as some of the brambles will project less or /^{an otb}ers, and therefore, as stated, a ^Perf^ectly round ball is rarely obtained.
