Electrical connector
The present invention relates to an electrical connector, and more particularly to an electrical connector in which a split tongue is mounted in combination on an insulative base.
In order to meet the versatile and space-saving use requirements, composite electrical connectors that can meet a variety of signal transmission specifications have become a trend in the development of electrical connectors. In particular, the signal transmission specification is continuously updated. In the transition period between the old and new transmission specifications, the composite electrical connector capable of complying with the old and new transmission specifications at the same time can increase the convenience of use.
At present, the more commonly used signal transmission specifications are USB2.0, USB3.0 (USB is the abbreviation of Universal Serial Bus) and ESATA (External Serial Advanced Technology). Attachment), so the development of a composite socket electrical connector for USB2.0, USB3.0 and ESATA plug connectors, such as Taiwan New Patent Bulletin No. M357748 (corresponding Chinese patent application number 200810173163.4 The corresponding US Patent Publication No. US2009111330A1) is disclosed. A preferred embodiment disclosed in the patent No. M357748 is an assembled structure using a split tongue and includes three types of terminals, wherein the first type of terminal is an ESATA connector terminal and the second type of terminal is a standard USB 2.0. The connector terminal, the third type terminal and the second type terminal cooperate to form a USB3.0 connector terminal, and the third type terminal and the tongue plate are integrally formed and embedded in the tongue plate, and the first type terminal is mounted on the upper surface of the tongue plate. The second type of terminal is mounted to the lower surface of the tongue. However, the tongue plate of the separate assembly itself has a weaker structural strength due to the thinner thickness. In order to install the terminal of the second type, the tongue plate forms a terminal passage penetrating to the rear end of the tongue plate, so that the strength of the tongue plate is more insufficient. It is difficult to withstand large insertion and extraction forces or torsional moments, or abnormal insertion and removal conditions, which are prone to loosening and breaking of the tongue.
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide an electrical connector that can enhance the strength of a split tongue.
Therefore, according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the electrical connector of the present invention comprises an insulating unit, a plurality of first terminals, a plurality of second terminals, a plurality of third terminals, and a set of metal disposed outside the insulating unit case. The insulation unit includes a base and a tongue plate. The base has a base wall and an assembly groove disposed on the base wall and engaging the tongue plate, and the assembly groove penetrates the base wall back and forth. The tongue plate is engaged with the assembly groove, and the tongue plate has a body and a plurality of terminal mounting grooves which are recessed downward from the top surface of the body. The rear ends of the terminal mounting grooves are defined by a boss portion. The pedestal further has a plurality of first terminal passages disposed on the base wall and corresponding to the terminal mounting slots, and each of the first terminal passages has a retreat recess corresponding to the position of the boss portion. The first terminals are fixed to the insulation unit, and each has an elastic contact portion corresponding to each of the terminal mounting grooves. The second terminal is fixed to the insulating unit, and each has a second contact portion exposed on the top surface of the body of the tongue and closer to the front end of the tongue than the first terminal. The third terminal is fixed to the insulation unit, and each has a third contact portion exposed on the bottom surface of the body of the tongue plate.
According to the function of the preferred embodiment of the present invention, by forming a boss portion at the rear end of the terminal mounting groove of the tongue plate, the rear portion of the tongue plate is connected in a laterally overall manner and a thick block shape, thereby increasing the strength of the tongue plate and borrowing By the recessing recess of the first terminal passage, the front end of the elastic contact portion of the first terminal can pass over the boss portion at the rear end of the terminal mounting groove, and the terminal mounting groove can be easily accessed to complete the assembly.
