A banknote handling system
Abstract
A banknote-handling system includes a plurality of banknote-handling machines (11, 12, . . . ); a plurality of banks (16, 17) for accounting purposes, etc; a co-ordinating central unit (10); a transport system (18, 19 . . . ) for transporting banknotes between the machines and the banks; a central bank (15) for monitoring the activity and banknote-handling of respective banks; and an electronic information and signal transmission system (1-2) for enabling individual and co-operative activities of the units to be achieved. The information and signal transmission system (1-2) is divided into two subsystems. One subsystem (1) includes the transmission of information and signals that relate to and have their basis in transactions between the banks (16, 17) and the general public/businesses relating to their activities in respect of banknote-handling. The other subsystem (2) includes the purely administrative and technical signal transmission required for the requisite co-operation between the various units included in the system, for instance co-ordinating central unit-vehicles, banknote-handling machines-banks, within the banknote-handling system.

Banknote Handling
CALLED PUBLICATIONS: - - SUMMARY:
Banknote handling systems comprise a number of banknote handling machines (11, 12 ...); a number of banks (16, 17) for account keeping etc.; a coordination center (10); a transport system (18, 19 ...) for transporting banknotes between the machines and the banks; a central bank (15) for monitoring the banks' operations and banknotes management; and an electronic information and signal transmission system (1-2) to enable the units' individual and collaborative activities.
The information and signal transmission system (1-2) is divided into two separate subsystems. One subsystem (1) comprises information and signal transmission relating to and having its basis in transactions between the banks (16, 17) and the general public / businesspeople regarding their banknote handling activities. The second subsystem (2) comprises pure administrative and technical signal transmission necessary for the necessary cooperation between the various units included in the system, for example coordination central cars, banknote processing machines banks, within the banknote management system.

TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a banknote handling system of the kind set forth in the preamble of the following claims. In short, the system comprises a number of banknote handling machines, a number of banks, a coordination center, a transport system, a central bank, and an electronic information and signal transmission system.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
According to the invention, the system is designed in such a way that the electronic information and signal system is divided into two distinct subsystems, of which:
one subsystem includes information and signal transmission that relates to and has its basis in transactions, for example banknote handling, between the banks on the one hand and the general public and businessmen on the other, regarding their activities within the banknote management system, and the other subsystem includes purely administrative and technical signal transmission necessary for the necessary cooperation between the various units, for example coordination center - cars, banknote handling machines - banks, within the banknote management system.
Other features of the banknote handling system of the invention are set forth in the following claims.
PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
The invention will be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which schematically Fig. 1 shows the electronic information and signal transmission system, while Fig. 2 shows an overview of the units included in the system.
Fig. 1 shows two (zero and no n) of a number of (n.) Banknote handling machines of a type TCC 2000. For each machine is indicated: Insertion / Withdrawal, Quality sorting, Disposable cassettes, Safety box, Machine Statistics, Error Reports, Error Handling , Suspected Fakes, Banknote Info. Without further explanation, these headings should clearly state what it is in principle to achieve full understanding of the invention.
Required information and signal transfer from the first three parts (far left) refers to and has its basis in transactions, for example banknote handling, between the banks on the one hand and the public and businessmen on the other, regarding their activities within the banknote management system.

The requisite pure administrative and technical signal transmission from the remaining six parts relates to the cooperation between the various units, for example, coordination central - cars, banknote handling machines - banks, and central bank - banks within the banknote management system.
Pure transaction data generally requires fast connections; when e.g. If a person identifies with their credit card, the current bank must quickly prove their identity and then a fixed data connection is required. - This information flow subsystem 1 is referred to in Fig. 1 as "transaction data".
Pure administrative and technical signal transmission, such as e.g. machine statistics and error reporting, of course, do not require the same speed and can therefore be done through slower transmission, e.g. dial-up connection / GSM. - This subsystem 2 (the second subsystem) for the information flow is referred to in Figure 1 as "logistics and technical data".
It has been found practically practical to divide the second subsystem in turn into two separate subsystems, of which a technical third subsystem 21 includes technical signal transmission for required technical service on units included in the banknote management system, e.g. service vehicles; and an administrative fourth subsystem 22 includes administrative signal transmission for required / desirable information on the banknote flow system current within the banknote management system, e.g. optimization of banknote flows, control of banknote qualities, etc. for e.g. riksbank and police authority.
With the aid of Fig. 2, the units that can be included in the system according to the invention will now be briefly described.
Over a geographically limited area are placed a plurality of banknote handling machines 11, 12, 13, 14, .. In for the entry and exit of banknotes, which machines are arranged for bundling and cassette of surplus of approved quality banknotes and partly of banknotes of non-banknotes. approved quality, and partly found any counterfeit banknotes.
For said machines, there is a common information center 10 for receiving information from and transmitting information and control signals to said machines, which information includes facts about the presence of stored banknotes and cassioned banknotes and partly encountered banknotes of unapproved quality and possibly false banknotes.
The plant also includes a plurality of conveying means 18, 19, 20, 21 for transporting cassette banknotes to and from said machines 11 ... ln upon order from the central 10, depending on information output from the machines to the central.
The drawing suggests two banks 16, 17, which may be owners of machines and have responsibility for these in each region of the geographically limited area. The overall responsibility in society for banknote handling lies with the central bank 15 (the Riksbank). Dashed lines indicate communication connections between the various units (banknote handling machines / central, transport agencies / central, banks / central, banks / central bank).
Because every machine, every transport organ, every security bag used in conjunction with transport agencies for the transport of cassettes / banknotes between the various units as well as each person, active within the plant, can be given an individual identity (code), so the central control at any time over where banknotes / cassettes are located and where they are going. This gives one
515 338 very high security for the new, simplified and cost-reducing facility for a modem banknote handling.
