The present invention relates to an urine collection incontinence protection for men of the improved type.

Incontinence, ie inability to retain urine, is an increasingly noteworthy problem, especially in the elderly. Patients suffering from incontinence can be provided with a diaper of absorbent material, but such always present significant disadvantages to patients from both a practical and aesthetic point of view. Various types of urine collection incontinence protectors have been proposed which, however, all present significant disadvantages. Thus, it has been proposed to provide an incontinence protection of water-impervious plastic material in the form of a pocket with oblique angles, the interior of which is coated with commercially available water-swellable polymers with very high water-absorbing capacity. Thus, in these previously known protections, the entire surface of the protective bag is coated with water-absorbing material, which causes the inconvenience that the external genitalia will come into contact with the moist, swollen mass of urine. This usually results in skin irritations of varying severity and an unpleasant feeling for the patient.

A further disadvantage is that the exterior of the cover, which consists of a water-impermeable plastic material, sticks to the skin and can also cause skin irritations of the above mentioned kind.

The present invention relates to an improved incontinence protection for men where the above-mentioned disadvantages are eliminated.

The invention is described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 shows a side view of an incontinence protection for men according to the invention and Fig. 2 shows the same protection in partially opened position, ie. the position that the guard usually has during use.

Fig. 1 shows the shape of the cover as seen from the side. The cover consists of two layers (1 and 2 in Fig. 2). Three of its sides (3, 4, 5) are joined together, while the fourth side (6) is the opening of the cover. In use, the cover is opened along the edge (6) to the shape substantially shown in Figure 2 and the outer genitals are inserted into the opening with the penis directed toward the edge (5). In use mode, the cover will take such a position that the corner (8) is the highest point, while the corner (9) is the lowest point. In the interior of the cover only in the portion thereof bounded by a line substantially passing between the most closely opposite corners of the cover (10, 11) and between the joined edges (3, 4), there is an insert (7) of preferably web-shaped material with a great deal of great water-absorbing ability during swelling to form a gel-like material.

During involuntary urinary output, ie. incontinence, urine from the penis, which is in a position near the edge (5) but below the corner (8), will flow into the interior of the guard after the non-water-absorbing portion of the guard towards the corner (9) and between the edges (3) and (4) and absorbed by the material (7) with high water-absorbing capacity.

Commonly water-impermeable materials are essentially hydrophobic and this means that the outer genitals will not be constantly moisturized by urine during use, providing significant benefits to the patient.

The walls (1) and (2) of the cover consist of the aforementioned layer of thin water impervious material, which in the cover according to the invention is provided with a surface film of so-called non-woven material, which gives a pleasant feel to the skin and prevents the water impermeable the material sticks to the skin and provides the opportunity for perspiration to go away.

The walls (1) and (2) of the cover according to the invention thus consist of a laminate, whose water-impermeable component is a suitable web-shaped material, for example polyethylene having a melting point usually in the range of 100 ° to 120 ° C and a thickness in the range of 0.1 ° C. 0.025 mm, preferably 0.035 mm. Of course, other commonly occurring web-shaped water-impermeable materials can also be used.

The second component of the laminate consists of a so-called non-woven material, which usually consists of polymeric materials. A suitable such material is polypropylene but of course any other similar material can be used for this purpose. Nonwoven materials of a particularly suitable type are polypropylene fibers having a melting point of about 170 ° C. The difference between the melting temperatures of the two laminate materials should be so great that heat lamination of the layers to each other is facilitated.

Manufacture of the incontinence protector according to the invention takes place in such a way that first the web-shaped laminate is prepared as above and therefrom substantially parallelogram-shaped pieces which are subsequently heat-laminated to each other along the edges (3, 4, 5).

The layer (7) consists of a material of high water-absorbing capacity and is preferably a web-shaped one. Such materials are commercially available and usually comprise polymeric materials of various types. Such a material is sold commercially under the trademark FAVOR SAB 901 which is a salt of a cross-linked polyacrylic acid. Of course, other materials with similar properties can also be used. From this web-shaped material, appropriately formed symmetrical pieces are adapted which are adapted to the inner shape of the cover and inserted therein at the intended place after folding along the line of symmetry.
