The fluid collection device 100 includes an impermeable barrier 102, a wicking material 115, and a conduit 108. The filament material 115 may be located in the impermeable barrier 102. The stream 108 may be located at least partially within the filament material 115.
The fluid-impermeable barrier 102 at least partially defines a portion of the outer surface of a device

5 Liquid collection 100. The fluid impermeable barrier 102 defines at least a chamber 104 therein (e.g., the interior area of the fluid collection device 100) and an opening 106. An opening 106 is formed and extends through the fluid impermeable barrier 102 allowing fluids to enter the chamber 104 from Outside the fluid collection device 100. The opening 106 can be configured to be positioned proximal to the female urethra, i.e. on or between the labia majora of the female user.

10 The fluid impermeable baffle 102 can also retain or temporarily store fluids in the chamber 104. For example, the impermeable barrier 102 may be composed of any suitable impermeable material, such as an impermeable polymer (such as silicone, polypropylene, polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polyurethane, polycarbonate, vinyl chloride, latex, silicone , etc.), a metal membrane, other suitable material, or combinations thereof. As such, an impermeable barrier may prevent

15 The liquids 102 allow at least some of the liquids to exit from the portion of the chamber 104 that is distant from the opening 106.

The fluid-impermeable barrier 102 can be both air-permeable and fluid-impermeable. In such an example, the fluid impermeable barrier 102 may be formed from a water-insoluble material that defines a plurality of pores. For example, at least one or more parts of

20 The outer surface of the fluid-impermeable barrier 102 is made of a soft and/or smooth material, which reduces irritation of the user's skin. The impermeable barrier 102 may include markings on it, such as one or more marks to assist the user in aligning the device 100 on the wearer. For example, a line on the fluid-impermeable barrier 102 (e.g., opposite the opening 106) may allow a health care professional to align the opening 106 over the wearer's urethra. In examples, this may include

Markers are one or more alignment guides or direction indicators, such as a bar or # signs. These marks may be placed to align the device 100 with one or more anatomical organs such as the pubic bone, etc.
Filament material 115 may be disposed in a fluid-permeable barrier 102. Filament material 115 may include a permeable material designed to pass liquid through it. The permeability characteristics referred to here may be either pass,

5 Capillary property, diffusion, or other similar properties or processes, herein referred to as “permeable” and/or “capillary”. This “permeability” or “capillary” may not include absorption within the permeable or capillary materials. The wick material 115 may collect fluid traveling through the opening 106. By not using absorbent materials, the wick 115 may facilitate the movement of fluid through the opening 106 into the chamber 104 without retaining fluid in the wick material 115. Thus, the device 100 may provide a dry interface to the wearer until 10 After fluids are absorbed from the wearer into chamber 100. The filament material 115 may include more than one substance

One, like a collection of materials. A group of materials may include a group of layers placed centrally within each other. Layers placed centrally within each other may exhibit a gradient in absorption, with the deeper absorbing material having greater or less absorbing capacity for the combination of materials.

15 For example, the filament material 115 may include one or more fluid-permeable holders 120 (Figure 2b) or a fluid-permeable membrane 118. For example, the fluid collection device 100 may include a fluid-permeable membrane 118 that is positioned in the chamber 104. The fluid-permeable membrane 118 of at least part (e.g., all) of the opening 106. The fluid-permeable membrane 118 can be configured to absorb any liquid away from the opening 106, preventing the liquid from escaping

20 of chamber 104. The fluid-permeable membrane 118 may also absorb liquid generally toward the interior of chamber 104, as described in more detail below. The fluid-permeable membrane 118 may include any material capable of absorbing a fluid. The fluid-permeable membrane 118 may be a non-absorbent wicking material. For example, the fluid-permeable membrane 118 can include fabric, such as gauze (such as silk, linen, or cotton gauze), and woven fabrics (such as
