A method for detecting the context of a mobile device (100) equipped with sensors (111, 121, 122, 131) and a context detection module (109) in which the sensors (111, 121, 122, 131) are assigned to at least two groups (110, 120, 130), each of which contains at least one sensor (111, 121, 122, 131), and each group (110, 120, 130) has a group classifier adapted to be detected, in the form of a classification result, currently identified by the given device context classifier (100) on the basis of the sensors (111, 121, 122, 131) belonging to a given group, using the context detection module (109) of the group (110, 120, 130) sensors is hierarchically ranked, the device context is checked by reading classification result indicated by the classifier of the currently active group,when in the case of detection of the identified context in the active group, the sensor supply is activated and the classifications in the group (110, 120, 130) are activated by a higher level and the context indicated by the classifier of the group is read, based on the classification results indicated by the group classifiers the higher is the adaptation of the configurations of lower classifiers.
