Description of the invention
The subject of the invention is an overlay roof window, intended to be mounted on a frame protruding from the roof slope and being a part of its structure. The window can be unopened or opened. The window according to the invention is used both in so-called flat roofs and in sloped roofs.
State of the art. It is known from the patent specification US 7624547 (B1) a roof window intended for mounting on a frame protruding from the roof, having a glazing unit consisting of two panes connected by a spacer frame. The glazing unit is mounted via a frame overlapping the upper surface of the outer pane. This solution makes it difficult for rainwater or melted snow to run down the pane, because this water stops on the frame protruding above the pane, adjacent to the lower edge of the pane. Stopping water flow occurs especially in windows installed in flat roofs or with a slight slope.
The essence of the solution. The overlay roof window is intended for installation on a framing protruding from the roof slope and being a part of its structure. It is equipped with a glazing unit consisting of at least two panes separated by a space filled with gas, and it has a support frame for a glazing unit, which is made of a section with a support wall and a curtain wall surrounding the glazing unit. Between the support wall of the section of the supporting frame of the glazing unit, and the edge zone of the lower glazing unit, along all the edges of this glazing, there is an adhesive joint, which creates a compact and inseparable structure of the glazing unit and its supporting frame.
The distance from the support surface of the roof window, on the framing protruding from the roof slope, to the most protruding edge of the curtain wall of the section of the supporting frame of the glazing unit is not greater than the distance from the supporting surface of the roof window to the outer plane of the glazing unit. There is an adhesive and sealing joint between the glazing unit and the curtain wall. Preferably, the edge of the curtain wall of the support frame section ends slightly below the outer surface of the glazing unit, as a result of which the outer surface of the adhesive and sealing joint is inclined with respect to the outer surface of the glazing unit, creating a chamfer of the outer edge of the roof window. The individual panes in the glazing unit, in particular, have a rectangular shape, the widths of these panes being identical throughout the glazing unit, and the lengths of these panes being identical throughout the glazing. The window is designed to be installed in flat roofs as well as in steep roofs, and the full range of inclinations is from 0 to 85 degrees.
The section of the supporting frame of the glazing unit, in addition to the supporting wall and the curtain wall surrounding the glazing unit, also has a bottom curtain wall, which is located below the supporting wall, on the extension of the curtain wall. The lower curtain wall of the section of the supporting frame of the glazing unit is surrounded by a frame protruding from the roof, protecting it against the influence of weather conditions.
Advantageously, the section of the supporting frame of the glazing unit has a rib located below the supporting wall and facing the same direction, as a result of which there is a fixing groove between the rib and the supporting wall. A profile strip is embedded in this groove for fixing window accessories located inside the room with the roof window, for example an internal roller blind or a strip shutter. Preferably, the profile strips extend along all sides of the glazing unit, forming a mounting frame for the indicated window accessories.
In the first variant of the invention, the overlay roof window is not opened, and its fastening frame for the window accessories, placed under the glazing unit, rests on the frame protruding from the roof slope. Preferably, there is a flat gasket between this fastening frame and the frame projecting from the roof. The non-opening overlay roof window is attached to the roof by means of intermediate fasteners, such as screws or nails, which, while passing through the openings in the bottom curtain wall of the section surrounding the glazing unit, are embedded in the framing protruding from the roof slope, which is a part of the roof structure.
In a second variant of the invention, the overlay skylight also does not open. It differs from the first variant in that it additionally has a frame mounted on a framing protruding from the roof slope, attached to this framing with, for example, threaded fasteners. A fastening frame for window accessories is placed under the glazing unit, which rests on the frame. Preferably, there is a flat gasket between this fastening frame and the jamb. Glazing package
The PL 229 602 B1 is attached to the frame by means of intermediate fasteners, such as screws or nails, which, while passing through the openings in the bottom cover wall of the section surrounding the glazing unit, are embedded in the frame of the overlay roof window.
In a third variant of the invention, the overlay skylight also does not open. This window has a casing mounted on a framing protruding from the roof slope, as in the second variant of the invention. However, it does not have a fixing frame for window accessories, and instead, the supporting wall of the profile of the supporting frame of the glazing unit extends towards the center of the package, overlapping the frame. Preferably, there is a flat gasket between the supporting wall of the support frame section surrounding the glazing unit and the frame. The glazing unit is attached to the frame, identically as in the second variant of the invention.
In a fourth variant of the invention, the overlay roof window is opened. This window has a casing mounted on a framing protruding from the roof slope, as in the second variant of the invention. The glazing unit with its supporting frame is part of the movable sash of this window, also having a mounting frame for window accessories, identical to the first and second variants of the invention. The window sash is connected to the frame by means of hinges, which on the sash side are embedded in the mounting frame for window accessories. In the closed state of the window, a flat gasket is preferably provided between this fastening frame and the frame.
In a fifth embodiment of the invention, the overlay sunroof is also openable. This window has a casing mounted on a framing protruding from the roof slope, as in the second variant of the invention. The glazing unit with its supporting frame is part of the movable sash of this window, which (as in the third variant) does not have a fixing frame for window accessories, while the support wall of the section of the supporting frame of the glazing unit extends towards the center of the package, overlapping the frame. The window sash is connected to the frame by means of hinges, which are attached to the section of its supporting frame on the sash side. In the closed state of the window, a flat gasket is preferably provided between the supporting wall of the support frame section and the frame.
In a sixth variant of the invention, the overlay roof window is non-opening and its structure is the simplest of all the variants. This window has neither a frame nor a frame for window accessories, while the support wall of the section of the supporting frame of the glazing unit extends towards the center of the packet, overlapping the framing protruding from the roof slope, which is part of its structure. In the supporting wall of the section of the supporting frame of the glazing unit, on its lower surface, the window has a gasket, preferably mounted in the groove. The window is fixed to the roof, as in the first variant, by means of intermediate fasteners, such as screws or nails, which, while passing through the openings in the bottom cover wall of the profile surrounding the glazing unit, are embedded in the framing protruding from the roof slope.
In variants of the overlay roof window according to the invention, equipped with a frame, i.e. variants: the second, third, fourth and fifth - thermal insulation covers, mounted on the outer side surfaces of the frame, can be additional equipment of the window. Preferably, the thermal insulation caps extend towards the roof slope, as a result of which they also overlap the side surfaces of the framing protruding from the roof, also insulating this zone.
Beneficial Effects of Using the Invention. The overlay roof window according to the invention, thanks to the use of the load-bearing frame of the glazing unit, which does not extend above the upper surface of the outer pane, allows rainwater or melted snow to flow freely on the pane, which facilitates keeping the pane clean and reduces the frequency of necessary window cleaning operations. This advantage is particularly important in non-opening windows, which require access to the roof to clean.

PL 229 602 B1
The overlay roof window is also shown in an embodiment not shown in the drawing, but described by indicating common features and differences with respect to the drawn examples.
Example 1. A non-opening overlay roof window, shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, consists of a rectangular glazing unit 1 surrounded by a support frame 2 made of aluminum alloy sections. A rectangular fastening frame 3 is placed under the glazing unit, which is used for optional mounting of window accessories installed inside a room with a skylight, for example an internal roller blind or a strip shutter. In the roof structure X, in which the window according to the invention is installed, the load-bearing elements are rafters X1, and the roofing elements X2 of any type (not according to the invention) rest on them. From the roof structure X, framing X3 protrudes upwards, consisting of two longitudinal rails Xw, parallel to the rafters X1, and two transverse rails Xp, arranged horizontally in the roof.
The glazing unit 1 consists of two panes 11, connected at the periphery by a distance frame 12 which closes the space between the panes 11. The distance frames 12 and panes 11 are glued together. The space inside the glazing unit 1 is filled with gas, preferably argon. The supporting frame 2 of the glazing unit 1 is made of a section having a supporting wall 21 situated under the edge of the lower pane 11 of the glazing unit and a covering wall 22 surrounding the complete supporting frame of the glazing unit 1. On the supporting wall 21 of the support frame section 2 there is an adhesive bond 4, which forms an inseparable connection between the glazing unit 1 and the support frame 2. The distance H2 from the support surface of the roof window on the framing X3 protruding from the roof to the most protruding edge of the curtain wall 22 of the support frame section 2, is slightly smaller than the distance H1 from the support surface of the roof window on the X3 frame to the outer plane of the glass pane 11 of the glazing unit 1. Between the glazing unit 1 and the curtain wall 22 there is an adhesive-sealing joint 5, the outer surface of which joining the edge of the outer pane 11 of the glazing unit 1 with the curtain wall 22 is inclined in relation to the surface of the pane 11, creating a chamfer of the outer edge of the roof window. The support frame section 2 also has a bottom curtain wall 23 located below the supporting wall 21 in extension of the curtain wall 22. In the assembled support frame, the bottom curtain walls 23 surround a framing X3 extending from the roof. The lower curtain walls 23 also serve to fasten the overlay window to the roof by means of screws 6, which pass through the openings in the bottom curtain wall 23 and are embedded in the X3 frame.
The section of the supporting frame 2 also has a rib 24 situated below the supporting wall 21, parallel to it, whereby a groove 25 is formed between this supporting wall 21 and the rib 24, which is open on the inside of the supporting frame 2. The fixing frame 3 for window accessories on the its circumference has a tongue 31 that extends into the groove 25 of the support frame 2 through which the fixing frame 3 is connected to the support frame 2. The connection of both the supporting 2 and the fastening 3 frames is realized in such a way that the supporting frame 2 is made of one section, which in its corners has triangular cuts in the supporting wall 21 and ribs 24, while the curtain wall 22 and the lower curtain wall 23 are at these corners, the groove 25 is bent over the tongue 31 of the fastening frame while guiding it, and after the perimeter is closed on one of the walls of the supporting frame, the opposite ends of the section are joined with rivets.
There is a flat gasket 32 between the fixing frame 3 for window accessories and the framing X3 protruding from the roof. This gasket is glued to the lower surface of the fixing frame 3.
Example 2 Overlay roof window, shown in Figure 3 (which is a cross-sectional example relating to all sides of the window), has a rectangular glazing unit 1, composed of two panes 11, connected along the circumference by a spacer frame 12. Support frame 2 of the packet of the shaft is made of a section having a support wall 21 and a curtain wall 22, and a wall with bottom half 23 and a rib 25 - identical to the first embodiment. The supporting frame 2 and the glazing unit 1 are connected by a glue-fixing joint 4 placed on the supporting wall 21. The window also has a rectangular fixing frame 3 for optional mounting of window accessories thereon, which is connected with the supporting frame 2 by means of its tongue 31 embedded in the supporting wall. a groove 25 between the support wall 21 and a rib identically to the first embodiment of the invention.
The window according to the second embodiment has a frame 7 which is seated on the framing X3 projecting from the roof and is attached to it with threaded fasteners (not shown) perpendicular to the roof. A fixing frame 3 rests on the frame 7 for window accessories, and between it and the frame 7 there is a flat gasket 32 glued to the lower top surface of the fixing frame 3. There is a heat-insulating cap 71 on the outer side surface of the frame. This cap extends towards the roof, thereby overlapping the side surface of the X3 framing, also insulating this area of the roof.
The distance H2 from the support surface of the roof window on the framing X3 protruding from the roof to the farthest edge of the curtain wall 22 of the support frame section 2 is slightly smaller than the distance Hr from the support surface of the roof window on the framing X3 to the outer plane of the glazing 11 of the glazing unit. There is an adhesive-sealing joint 5 between the glazing unit 1 and the curtain wall 22 - as in the first embodiment. In the assembled support frame, the bottom curtain walls 23 surround the frame 7. The support frame 2 and with it the glazing unit 1 are fastened to the frame 7 with screws 6 embedded in it, which pass through the openings in the bottom curtain wall 23.
Example 3 An overlay roof window according to a third embodiment of the invention (not shown) is an opening window. It has a glazing unit and a supporting frame connected with glue joints, as well as a mounting frame for accessories and a door frame - all identical to the second embodiment. The glazing unit, the load-bearing frame and the mounting frame for accessories together constitute a movable window sash, embedded in the frame by means of hinges, which in the sash are attached to the fixing frame. Due to the movable sash, in this embodiment there is no screw fastening to the frame, while the window has a sash locking unit in the closed position.
Example 4 Overlay roof window, not opened, shown in Figure 4 of the drawing (which is an example of a cross-section relating to all sides of the window), has a rectangular glazing unit 1, composed of two panes 11, connected at the circumference by a spacer frame 12. Support frame 8 of the packet of the shaft is made of a section having a support wall 81, a shield wall 82 and a bottom shield wall 83. The supporting frame 8 and the glazing unit 1 are connected by a glue-fixing joint 4 applied on the supporting wall 81, which wall has a groove 84 on its lower surface, and a seal 85 with an O-shape is seated therein, which adjoins the framing X3 protruding from the roof and being part of that roof.
The distance H2 from the support surface of the window on the framing X3 projecting from the roof to the most protruding edge of the curtain wall 82 of the support frame section 8 is slightly smaller than the distance H1 from the support surface of the roof window on the framing X3 to the outer plane of the glazing 11 of the glazing unit. Between the glazing unit 1 and the curtain wall 82 there is an adhesive-sealing joint 5 - as in the first embodiment of the invention.
The support frame section 8 also has a bottom curtain wall 83 located below the support wall 81 in the extension of the curtain wall 82. In the assembled support frame 8, the bottom curtain walls 83 surround a framing X3 protruding from the roof. The lower curtain walls 83 also serve to fix the window to the roof by means of screws 6, which pass through the openings in the lower curtain wall 83 and are embedded in the X3 frame.
