Cosmetic effervescent cleansing pillow
Abstract
A wiping article is provided which includes an effervescent cleanser composition held within a pouch formed from a first and second substrate sheet. At least one of the substrate sheets must be water permeable. The effervescent composition is an intimate mixture of an acid material such as citric acid and an alkaline material such as sodium bicarbonate. Water contact causes the combination to effervesce. A dry surfactant such as sodium cocoyl isethionate in contact with the water and effervescing carbon dioxide results in a highly pleasant sudsing system. Skin benefit agents may be included within the composition. The effervescent action may improve deposition of the skin benefit agents onto the skin.

Description of the invention
The invention relates to a cosmetic product for cleaning a body surface in the form of an effervescent foaming body wash product which produces a pleasant sensory feeling on the skin of the user.
The conventional method of cleansing the skin or other articles uses a surfactant composition. Sometimes an instrument contains a composition. Devices such as sachets serve several purposes. One function is to create a package for the surfactant. The sachets can also aid in the production of foam. They also act as abrasives to aid in their cleaning function.
An early example of a cleansing flake technology is described in US Patent No. 1,808,834 (Busch Sr.). A fabric pouch is disclosed surrounding a cleaning composition mainly consisting of calcium carbonate and sodium.
US Patent No. US-423,442 (Cornelissens) describes a sachet that may consist of a water-permeable material filled with an acidic and alkaline ingredient. Examples of acidic ingredients are adipic acid, succinic acid and glutaric acid. Representatives of the basic components are sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate.
US Patent No. 4,272,393 (Gergely) describes a washing article made of a porous flexible substrate, particularly cellulose paper, impregnated with a detergent and a gas generating system. Foam is created by separating the acid component, such as citric acid, and the basic component, such as sodium carbonate, in two separate areas of the substrate.
US Pat. Nos. US-4,515,703 (Haq), US-4,600,620 (Lloyd et al.) And US-4,603,069 (Haq et al.) All describe body wash articles impregnated with a surfactant. They do not contain any effervescent ingredients.
WO 97/43366 (Askew et al.) Discloses an effervescent system for improving the dosing of granular laundry detergent powders to the wash water in automatic washing machines. Combinations of citric acid and sodium bicarbonate were used to induce effervescence.
The object of the invention is to provide a cleaning fabric comprising an effervescent system activated by contact with water.
Another object of the invention is to provide a washing fabric comprising an effervescent system activated by contact with water to generate carbon dioxide which, when released, causes the detergent components of the fabric to foam.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a cleansing fabric that has a pleasant sensory feeling on the skin during and after use.
The present invention relates to a cosmetic article for cleaning a body surface comprising a composition comprising an alkaline material, an acidic material and a surfactant, characterized in that it comprises:
- a pouch formed of the first and second sheets and at least one of them is water permeable and the first and second sheets define a pouch therebetween, the pouch being sealed along its entire circumference; and
an effervescent dry anhydrous solid cleansing composition contained in a pouch, the composition comprising:
(i) from 1 to 80% of a basic material;
(ii) from 0.5 to 80% of an acid material; and (iii) 0.1 to 30% of a solid surfactant.
Preferably, the article of the invention further comprises from 0.01 to 30% by weight of a skin benefit agent selected from skin emollients, anti-aging active agents, antibacterial and antifungal agents, skin lightening agents, sunscreen agents, and mixtures thereof.

In another preferred embodiment, the product according to the invention further comprises from 0.1 to 3% by weight of an emotional enhancer selected from fragrances, herbal agents and mixtures thereof.
PL 197 855 B1
It is particularly preferred that the emotional enhancer is incorporated into the composition by spraying on one or more other ingredients of the composition.
Preferably, in the product according to the invention, the water-permeable base sheet is an rayon non-woven material.
Preferably, the surfactant in the product according to the invention is sodium cocoyl isethionate.
Preferably, the acid in the product according to the invention is citric acid.
Preferably, the washing composition further comprises from 0.01 to 1% by weight of a deposition aid which is a cationic monomer or polymer.
The article is useful in a method of skin cleansing comprising wetting a cosmetic product with water, foaming the product, and rubbing the skin surface with the moistened product, the product being a bag with an effervescent cleansing composition as described above.
Cosmetic cleaning articles according to the invention when in contact with water, when activated with water, ruffle to many times their dry size (for example, typically more than 10, but often more than 40 times). The sparkling washing system generates plenty of foam. Due to the effervescent effect, a swollen "pillow" is created. Thanks to the careful selection of acidic and alkaline ingredients, the user's skin feels like a creaky washout of ingredients.
The first essential ingredient in the composition in the bag is an acidic material. Any acids in dry solid form are suitable for this purpose. Particularly suitable are organic C2-C20 mono- and polycarboxylic acids, especially alpha- and beta-hydroxy carboxylic acids, C2-C20 organophosphoric acids such as phytic acid, C2-C20 organosulfonic acids such as toluenesulfonic acid and peroxides such as hydrogen peroxide. Typically hydroxycarboxylic acids include adipic, glutaric, succinic, tartaric, malic, maleic, lactic, salicylic, and citric acids, as well as lactone-forming acids such as gluconolactone and glucarolactone. Citric acid is most preferred.
Encapsulated acids may also be suitable as acid material. Typically, the encapsulating material includes water-soluble synthetic or natural polymers such as polyacrylates (e.g., encapsulating polyacrylic acid), cellulose resins, polyurethane polymers, and polyoxyalkylene polymers. The term "acid" means any substance which, when dissolved in deionized water at a concentration of 1%, gives a pH of less than 7, preferably less than 6.5, optimally less than 5. These acids, preferably at a temperature of 25 ° C, are in a solid form, i.e. have a melting point of not more than 25 ° C. The acid concentrations should be from about 0.5 to about 80%, preferably from about 10 to about 65%, and optimally from about 20 to about 45% by weight of the total composition.
The second essential component of the composition in the pouch is an alkaline material. An alkaline material is a substance that can generate a gas such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen or oxygen, ie it will fizz on contact with water and an acidic material. Suitable alkali materials are anhydrous carbonate and bicarbonate salts, alkaline peroxides (e.g. sodium perborate and sodium percarbonate), and azides (e.g. sodium azide). The preferred basic material is sodium or potassium bicarbonate. The amounts of the basic material may range from about 1 to about 80%, preferably from about 5 to about 49%, more preferably from about 15 to about 40%, optimally from about 25 to about 35% by weight of the total composition.
The term "anhydrous" means the presence of not more than 5%, preferably not more than 3.5% and optimally not more than 1% by weight of water of the total composition. Water of hydration is not considered to be water for the purpose of defining anhydrousness. However, it is preferable to minimize and more preferably eliminate the water of hydration.
Preferably, the combined amount of acidic and basic materials is at least about 1.5%, more preferably from about 40 to about 95%, and optimally from about 60 to about 80% by weight of the total composition.
A third necessary ingredient of the compositions according to the invention is a dry surfactant, preferably a dry surfactant, which is solid at 20 ° C. Most suitable for the purposes of the present invention is sodium cocoyl isethionate. Other useful surfactants include sodium methyl cocoyl taurate and sodium lauryl sulfate. Surfactants can be anionic, cationic, nonionic, amphoteric, zwitterionic, and combinations thereof. The amounts of dry surfactant may be from about 0.1 to about 30%, more preferably from about 1 to about 30%, and optimally from about 8 to about 15% by weight of the total composition.
PL 197 855 B1
Various skin benefit agents can be incorporated into the composition to improve the feel after use. Preferably, such materials are available as anhydrous dry powders. Alternatively, such substances may be liquids embedded in or on a powdered substrate (e.g. sodium bicarbonate or zeolite) to provide a free flowing powder.
Many suitable categories of materials fall within the scope of the skin benefit agents. These include emollients, active anti-aging agents, antibacterial and antifungal agents, skin lightening agents, sunscreen agents, and combinations thereof. The amounts of skin benefit agents may vary from about 0.001 to about 30%, more preferably from about 0.1 to about 20%, more preferably from about 0.5 to about 10%, optimally between about 1 and about 5% by weight of the total composition. .
The softeners can be in the form of natural or synthetic esters, silicone oils, hydrocarbons, starches, fatty acids, and mixtures thereof. Typically, the softening agent is present at a concentration of from about 0.1 to about 35% by weight of the total composition.
Suitable silicone oils can be divided into volatile and non-volatile grades. The term "volatile" is used herein for those materials that have a measurable vapor pressure at room temperature. Volatile silicone oils are preferably selected from cyclic or linear polydimethylsiloxanes containing from 3 to 9, more preferably from 4 to 5 silicon atoms.
Linear volatile silicones generally have a viscosity below about 5 x 106 m2/ s (5 centistokes) at 25 ° C, while cyclic materials typically have a viscosity of less than about 10 x 106 m2 / s (10 centistokes).
Non-volatile silicone oils useful as a softening material include polyalkylsiloxanes, polyalkylarylsiloxanes, and polyethersiloxane copolymers. Relevant useful non-volatile polyalkylsiloxanes include, for example, polydimethylsiloxanes with viscosities from about 5 x 106 m2 / s to about 0.1 m2/ s (5 to about 100,000 centistokes) at 25 ° C. Among the preferred non-volatile softeners useful in the compositions of the invention are polydimethylsiloxanes with viscosities from about 10 x 106 m2 / s to about 40 x 106 m2/ sec (10 to about 40 centistokes) at 25 ° C.
Among the suitable ester emollients are:

Sunscreen agents can also be included as skin benefit agents. Materials such as ethylhexyl p-methoxycinnamate, available as Parsol® MCX, and benzpenone-3, also known as Oxybenzone, are particularly preferred. Inorganic sunscreen active agents such as microfine titanium dioxide, polyethylene and various other polymers can also be used. The amount of sunscreen agent is generally from 0.1 to 30%, preferably from 2 to 20%, optimally from 4 to 10% by weight.
Adjuncts of functional agents may also be included in the compositions of the invention. They include electrolytes, thickeners and mixtures thereof. The amount of these substances is from about 0.3 to about 10%, optimally between about 0.5 and about 5% by weight of the total composition.
The electrolytes may be selected from alkali salts, alkaline earth salts or ammonium salts of phosphates, silicates, halides, sulfates, and mixtures thereof. Typical phosphates are potassium polymetaphosphate, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium tetrapyrophosphate, sodium or potassium pyrophosphate, and sodium hexmetaphosphate. Organic thickeners include alginic acid, also as sodium and calcium alginates, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose, and combinations thereof.
Most preferred is alginic acid, which is commercially available as Kelacid® from Sud-Chemie Rheologicals, Louisville, Kentucky. Alginic acid is very effective in removing the feeling of slipperiness associated with the deposition of alkaline material not completely rinsed off the skin. The amount of thickener may be from about 0.1 to about 20%.
Polysaccharides useful in the invention are dry, solid, anhydrous substances such as sorbitol, sugars (such as trehalose), starches, modified starches (e.g., octenyl aluminum succinate), and mixtures thereof. Most preferred is sorbitol.
Deposition aids may also be included in the compositions of the invention. They help to deposit skin beneficial agents onto the skin surface. Cationic monomers and polymers are particularly effective for this purpose. Examples are as follows:
chloride, lauryl chloride (laurtrimoniowy) chloride stearylotri (2-hydroxyethyl) ammonium chloride (Quaternium-16) chloride, lauryldimethylbenzylammonium chloride (lauralkonium) chloride oleilodimetylobenzyloamoniowy chloride (olealkoniowy) chloride dilaurylodimetyloamoniowy chloride (dilaurylodimoniowy) chloride cetylodimetylobenzyloamoniowy chloride (cetalkonium) chloride dicetylodimetyloamoniowy chloride (DICETYLDIMONIUM) chloride laurylpyridinium (Laurylpyridinium chloride) chloride cetylpyridinium chloride (cetylpyridinium chloride) N- (soybean alkyl) -N, N, N-trimethylammonium chloride (soyatimonium chloride) polydiallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (Polyquaternium-6) diallyl dimethyl ammonium salt copolymerized with chloridrimarydrimaride-gurylamide (7) polyquaternrimaridium chloride

The names in brackets are the same as those given by Cosmetic, Toiletry and Faragrance
Association, Inc., in the CTFA Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary. Most preferred for the invention are cationic guar gums such as Jaguar C13S® which is guarohydroxypropyltrimonium chloride. The amount of the deposition aid may be from about 0.01 to about 1%, preferably from about 0.05 to about 0.5%, optimally from about 0.1 to about 0.3% by weight.
Preferably, emotional enhancers such as fragrance and / or plant extracts are incorporated into the effervescent cleansing composition. Fragrances and plant extracts are often liquids. For this reason, it is necessary to distribute them homogeneously and cause the liquid components to be absorbed onto the solid powder. One of the best methods is to spray such liquids onto a solid. The amounts of the perfume and / or plant extracts may be from about 0.1% to about 3%, preferably from 0.5 to 2%, optimally from 0.8 to 1.5% by weight of the total composition.
The term "perfume" is defined as a mixture of perfume ingredients, optionally mixed with a suitable solvent diluent or carrier, that are used to impart the desired fragrance. Particularly preferred fragrance ingredients are cyclic and acyclic terpenes or terpenoids. These materials are based on the repeating units of isoprene. Examples include alpha and betapinene, myrcene, alcohol and geranyl acetate, camphene, dllimonene, alpha and betafelandrene, tricyclene, terpinolene, alociman, geraniol, nerol, linanol, dihydrolinanol, citral, ionone, methyl ionone, citronellol, citronellal, alphaterpineol , alfafenchol, borneol, isoborneol, camphor, terpinen-1-ol, terpin-4-ol, dihydroterpineol, methylchavicol, anethole, 1,4 and 1,8-cineol, geranyl nitrate, isobornyl acetate, linalyl acetate, caryophyllene, alfacedrene, guaiol , patchuli alcohol, alpha- and betasantalol, and mixtures thereof.
Plant extracts particularly useful in the invention include yarrow, chamomile, jasmine, lavender, chestnut, sage, thyme, yucca, coltsfoot, and mixtures thereof.
Preservatives may advantageously be incorporated into the cosmetic compositions of the invention to protect against the growth of potential harmful microorganisms. Suitable traditional preservatives for the compositions of the present invention are the alkyl esters of parahydroxybenzoic acid. Other preservatives that have recently come into use include hydantoin derivatives, propionate salts, and various quaternary ammonium compounds. Cosmetic chemists are familiar with suitable preservatives and are able to routinely choose to satisfy the preservation test and ensure product stability.
Particularly preferred preservatives are phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, propylparaben, imidazoline urea, sodium dehydroacetate and benzyl alcohol. Preservatives should be selected having regard to the composition of the composition and the possible incompatibility between the preservatives and the other ingredients of the emulsion. Preservatives are preferably included in an amount of from 0.01% to 2% by weight of the composition.
Natural plant materials from renewable sources are often desired in cosmetic compositions. For example, cosmetic compositions of the invention may contain oat-derived beta-glucan commercially available under the trademark Microat SF from Nurture Inc., Missoula, Mont.
PL 197 855 B1
Dyes may also be included in the compositions of the invention. These substances may constitute from about 0.05 to about 5%, preferably between 0.1 and 3%, by weight of the composition.
The effervescent cleansing composition is placed in a pouch formed between the first and second flexible backing sheets, preferably at least one of them is a flexible sheet. At least one of the sheets must be water permeable, more preferably both sheets should be water permeable. For definition, the first and second sheets may be overlapping portions of a single sheet.
Suitable materials for forming the sheets can be rayon, polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene, cotton, or any combination thereof. Such sheets can be woven or non-woven. Rayon nonwoven fabric is most preferred. It is best not to use cellulosic paper fiber substrates as they do not have sufficient wet strength, although they may be mixed with the other fibers mentioned above, it is important that the base sheets do not break open easily when rubbing the product by the consumer. Unlike other sachets for washing products, the pouches of the invention should not break to disperse the granular contents in the wash water. Rather, they are intended to release all the components of the cleansing composition in dissolved form through the permeable walls of the pouch.
Body surfaces on which the article of the invention is to be applied include the face, body, hairy skin, armpits and even legs / feet. When the article is a foot cleansing composition, preferably the pouch on one side is roughened and the other side of the sheet may be soft and delicate. The flexible sheet of non-woven wall material in the leg wash product is useful for rubbing against the skin (heels) while the second sheet of the pouch remains smooth.
The articles of the invention may be formed as follows. The ingredients of the effervescent cleansing composition are placed in a dry mill or the like and mixed until a homogeneous powder is obtained. The fragrance / vegetable ingredients are then sprayed as a second phase into the mill with continuous mixing of the powdered composition.
The continuous web of the first backing sheet unwinds from the bale above the rotating conveyor belt. The effervescent washing composition is placed in a hopper located above the conveyor belt. Discrete portions of the powdered composition are regularly placed on the first backing sheet exactly in place under the nozzle of the hopper. Thereafter, the second base sheet is placed on the first base sheet that supports the composition. All sides defining the rectangle or square are then closed to embrace the effervescent cleansing composition within it. The knives then cut one closed section from the other, and thus the washing article is formed. The one or more washing articles are then packaged in a moisture-impermeable outer package, such as a laminated foil pouch, to prevent activation of the effervescent system during storage.
Ultrasonic welding may be used as an alternative to heat sealing the first and second sheets. Also, sewing with thread, applying glue or other methods of closing can be used.
Except for examples and comparative examples, or where not expressly indicated otherwise, all numbers in this specification describing amount of material are to be understood as modified by the word "about".
The term "comprises" is used as not limiting to any of the following elements, but as encompassing unspecified elements of greater or less functional importance. In other words, the listed steps, items, or options need not be exhaustive.
The following examples further illustrate the embodiments of the invention. All parts, percentages, and ratios are by weight, unless otherwise indicated, herein and in the appended claims.
Example 1
An effervescent wash composition was prepared with the composition given in Table 1. Phase A was dry mixed in a high shear shear mixer. The perfume was sprayed onto the resulting powder as phase B. Then 3 grams of the resulting powder was placed in a 5.1 cm by 7.6 cm (2 inch by 3 inch) rayon non-woven bag. All sides of the bag were tightly closed by sewing twice with thread.

Example 4
Another effervescent wash composition was prepared with the composition given in Table 4. Phase A was prepared by dry blending the ingredients in a high shear shear mixer. The perfume was sprayed onto the resulting powder as phase B. Thereafter, 3 grams of the resulting powder was placed in a 5.1 cm by 7.6 cm (2 inch by 3 inch) non-woven polyester cotton bag (50:50). The mesh size of the pouch walls is sufficient to allow the permeation of the dissolved ingredients. All sides of the bag were ultrasonically heat sealed to prevent powder from escaping from the bag.
