The subject of the invention is a self-adhesive label.
The invention particularly relates to multi-layer adhesive labels comprising a brochure, which results in a large surface area for printed information, which field is larger than the surface area of the projection of the label. labels
185 596 of the invention have particular application in the labeling of agricultural chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides.
U.S. Patent No. 5,399,403 to David J. Instance discloses a self-adhesive label in which the brochure is glued between the underlying adhesive element and the underlying adhesive layer material. Such a label can cause technical problems in use when the brochure is particularly thick, and especially when the self-adhesive label is intended for sticking on a round product, for example on a cylindrical container. These problems are related to the stresses acting on the layered material, and in particular on the edge portion of the layered material that is glued to the product. This may cause accidental detachment of the edge part from the product, and thus opening the label. An open label can be accidentally torn or scratched, which is obviously not desirable. Alternatively, these stresses may cause undesirable creasing of the label layers.
A self-adhesive label, comprising an adhesive base with an adhesive bottom surface, a multi-page brochure, located on the front face of the base, and a self-adhesive layered material having an adhesive bottom surface according to the invention is characterized in that the multi-page brochure is in an unfolded arrangement and has approximately a central bookbinding attachment, and this brochure has an overlay and the adhesive backing of the layered material is glued to the overlay and to the front of the base, the brochure is temporarily attached to the overlay by bookbinding, and in the position of the layered material and overlay pulled away from the base at which the brochure is exposed, the brochure is detachable from the overlay.
Bookbinding attachment contains at least one staple.
The label is detachable and can be attached repeatedly to an adhesive material pad, and the expanded laminated material flap is directly attached to the adhesive material pad on the first edge of the label opposite the second edge of the label at which said part of the front face of the base is located ( 61).
The cap is extended beyond the base towards the first edge of the label opposite the second edge of the label at which said part of the front face of the base is located.
A self-adhesive label mounted on a pad of adhesive material, comprising an integral multi-page brochure assembly and a self-adhesive layered material with an adhesive bottom surface according to the invention is characterized in that the multi-page brochure is in an unfolded arrangement and an overlay connected to the brochure is arranged on the brochure with an approximately central bookbinding and the adhesive bottom surface of the layered material is glued to the overlay and to the pad of adhesive material, the bookbinding attachment is detachable from the overlay, and in the position of the laminated material pulled away from the pad of adhesive material at which the brochure is exposed, the brochure is detachable from the overlay, which remains glued to the layered material.
Bookbinding attachment contains at least one staple.
The brochure is located on the adhesive base of the label, and the layered material is glued to the face of the base, the base being detachably adhered to a pad of adhesive material.
The invention label booklet is suitable for labeling agricultural chemicals because it can be used with a removable booklet with a large number of pages, having, despite the number of pages in the booklet label, a minimum thickness, which eliminates stress problems and allows maximum use of the surface area of the bottle intended on the labeling area.
The self-adhesive label according to the invention has many technical advantages compared to known labels. The label of the invention holds a multi-page brochure
185 596 inside, unfolded. For a given number of pages, the brochure reduces its thickness, which in turn is desirable due to the reduction of stress on the label after it has been glued to the product, especially to the curvilinear surface, which can lead to accidental opening of the label. In addition, the brochure is initially strong but detachable, attached to the label by temporarily attaching it to the cap. After opening the label, the brochure can be easily detached from the overlay and folded.
The labeling area of a booklet label with a given projection is maximized due to the fact that the unfolded brochure uses the maximum size of the label projection, which for given label dimensions and number of pages may reduce the thickness of the booklet accordingly This is especially important when using relatively small thick brochures that can fit into a user's shirt pocket (i.e., a folded brochure has approximately the same dimensions as a pack of cigarettes).
The subject of the invention in the embodiments is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 shows a self-adhesive label mounted on a pad of adhesive material in a main perspective view; Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the label of Fig. 1 after sticking to a cylindrical article and after opening by hand; figure 3 - the label of figure 2 after removing the label brochure and re-gluing the laminated material to the product in a vertical side view; and fig. 4 - perspective brochure after removing from the adhesive label and folding.
The thickness of some layers in the figures was exaggerated due to the readability of the image.
Fig. 1 shows a self-adhesive label 2 in a first embodiment according to the invention applied to a pad 4 of adhesive material, e.g. silicone-coated paper. Typically, a series of such self-adhesive labels 2 are provided on a longitudinal backing web of adhesive material, which backing web of adhesive material is wound on a roll in a known manner to automatically apply labels to a series of products or containers labeled in a labeling machine.
Adhesive label 2 includes an adhesive base 6, typically of paper or plastic, coated on its underside with a layer of adhesive that adheres, in a manner that allows it to peel, to pad 4 of adhesive material. On the main part 12 of the base 6 there is an integral assembly of the brochure 8 and caps 10. Booklet 8 contains a plurality of unfolded sheets that are bound together by bookbinding 14, which in the embodiment shown is a pair of staples. It goes without saying that any number of staples can be used, for example, only one staple, or other bookbinding techniques 14, such as sewing or gluing. The staples are generally placed along the central transverse line 36 of the assembly, as shown by the dashed lines in Fig. 1, which line corresponds to the only spine of brochure 8 after it has been removed from label 2 and then folded. The staples also temporarily attach the brochure 8 to the cap 10, which covers the top surface of the brochure 8. The staples pass through the cap 10 so that they are visible along the approximate center line 16 on the top surface of the cap 10. On one transverse edge 10 of the integral booklet assembly 8 and overlay 10, this assembly is spaced longitudinally from the transverse edge 20 of the label 2, exposing the secondary portion 22 of the front surface 24 of the base 6. On the opposite transverse edge 26 of the integral brochure assembly 8 and overlay 10, the transverse edge 6 extends laterally beyond the opposite transverse edge 28 of the base 6.
The self-adhesive transparent plastic cover 30 is glued with its surface. self-adhesive 32 to the front face 34 of the cap 10 so that it covers the staples, to part 22 of the front face 24 of the base 6 at the transverse edge 20 of the label 2 and directly to the pad 4 of adhesive material on the opposite transverse edge 30 of the label 2, thus forming an expanded flap 36 of the cover layer 30, which flap 36 holds the label 2 in a closed system. On the front surface 3 of the cover 10, of course, information is printed about the product to be laminated, as on the pages of the brochure 8 and on the front surface 24
185 596 of the base 6. The cap 10 extends beyond the base 6 towards the expanded flap 36 so that after the label 2 curves around the container, the expanded flap 36 does not adhere to the base
6.
In Figure 2, the label 2 can be seen after it has been glued on by means of an adhesive base 6 on the product 40, which typically is a container for liquid agricultural chemicals. In Fig. 2, the label 2 can be seen in the open position in which the user manually pulls from the container 40 the expanded flap 36 of the top layer 30, which is directly adhered to the product 40 adjacent to the integral assembly of the brochure 8 and the cap 10. Such manual opening reveals the previously invisible brochure 8. The brochure 8 can be read in place on the base 6 or detached from the adhesive label 2 by pulling, whereby the staples are pulled through the cap 10 and are held by the detached unfolded brochure
8. The cap 10 remains glued to the top layer 30. As a result of the relative strength of the plastic top layer compared to the cap, the cap does not tear (except where the staples are pulled through it) and retains its compactness. After re-gluing the expanded flap 36 to the container 40, the label returns to its initial appearance.
As can be seen in Figures 3 and 4, the self-adhesive label 2 with the brochure 8 removed can be restored to its closed position by gluing the expanded flap 36 of the top layer 30 to the product 40. Thus, despite the removal of the brochure 8, the label 2 in its closed state, after when the brochure 8 is removed, the same basic information can be seen because the label 2 has retained the cover 10. The brochure 8 can then be folded along the dotted line 16 to form ridge 44. Then brochure 8 can be read and kept for further use - not discarded. Preferably, the shape and dimensions of the brochure 8 are selected to suit the user's shirt pocket. This encourages the user to keep it for future use. This is especially important when the labeled product contains hazardous liquids such as herbicides or pesticides.
These labels can be made such that a series of brochure / overlay assemblies are applied to a series of pre-punched adhesive labels embedded on adhesive pad material. A self-adhesive top layer web is applied thereto and the necessary labels are formed by punching through the top layer, assemblies and bases down to the adhesive padding material. Then, the waste matrix is torn off from the adhesive material, leaving a series of labels according to the invention on a section of adhesive material, which is then rolled into a roll.
In an alternative embodiment, the transverse base edge 28 is elongated, which overlaps the transverse edges of the brochure / overlay assembly 10 and base 6.
It can easily be seen that the adhesive labels disclosed herein can be modified in a variety of ways without departing from the scope of the invention. For example, the self-adhesive base may be omitted, or, alternatively, the entire bottom surface of the label may be a self-adhesive base. Another modification may consist in providing the extended flap of the top layer, in one corner thereof, with a breaking tab, which can be formed, for example, from the extended part of the corner cap.
