[0001] The present invention relates to medical devices used in first aid. More particularly, the invention relates to improvements to compression bandages used for emergency medical purposes.
2. Description of the Related Art [0002] The cuffs of the tourniquet are mainly used to achieve a stopping of the arterial blood flow. A typical tourniquet is a tightly tied band around the body (hand or leg) when trying to stop major bleeding or uncontrolled emergency hemorrhage. The tourniquettes often used in the prior art consist of tightly bound strips that are applied around a body part, such as an arm or leg, to stop the flow of blood. In one example of the use of a tourniquet, a piece of rubber tube wraps around the limb and tightly binds. A rod is wound under the tube and twisted until the tube is clamped so that the bleeding is stopped. Tubes can not be clamped more than required to stop bleeding. As soon as the appropriate pressure in the limb is attained, the rod is tied in position by means of additional tubes and bandages. Other elements that can be used with the tourniquet are belt, rope, rope, wire, string and pieces of clothing.
[0003] US 2003 / 0028215A1 relates to a tourniquet system having a belt, a selective belt clip, in which as soon as the clip engages the strap, the clip allows a substantially free passage of the strip in the direction of the clip and substantially prevents the strip from passing in the direction of the clip and fixing the structure attached to the belt.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION [0004] The present invention relates generally to first aid articles and more particularly to tourniquets. The invention provides an article of a tourniquet according to claim 1. Additional embodiments of the invention are described in
EP 1 744 677 A1 dependent claims.
[0005] Having thus described embodiments of the present invention, the main object of the present invention is to provide an improved article of a tourniquet that can be used on a limb, using one hand to place and secure the article of the tourniquet.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF SEVERAL VIEWS OF DRAWINGS [0006] These and other objects, advantages and features of the present invention will become more apparent from the following description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the claimed object;
Fig. 2 is a diagram illustrating the components of an embodiment of a claimed object.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [0007] The present invention uses light and wrinkled materials, which makes it possible to carry the article in the field. The invention also makes it possible to apply the article of a tourniquet with one hand instead of two, which can be a key feature saving lives in the battlefield, when the medication's help is not immediately available and the wounded still has some ability to prevent large blood loss from his body. The tourniquet can also be used in emergency first aid in animals such as horses.
[0008] Turning now to the drawings to which like reference marks mean like elements in all views, FIGS. 1 and 2 illustrate an embodiment of an article of a tourniquet designated generally by reference numeral 10.
[0009] The article of the tourniquet 10, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, comprises an elongated assembly of many components. Fig. 1 illustrates a view of the components of article 10. The base 12 is made from a segment of 5.08 cm x 21.59 cm (2 "x8%") of the webbing B, a segment of 5.08 cm x 21.5 cm (2 ") x 8½11) Velcro® loop end Velcro® attached to the underside of the webbing B and a piece 5.08 cm x 762 cm (2 "x 3") of the webbing C attached to the top of the webbing B.
The webbing B is made of a 16-point heavy polypropylene plastic, and the webbing belt C is made of a nylon webbing for diving, but each of them may be made of any other suitable material, e.g. a webbing belt C may be made of plastic plastic. Episode A can also be made of non-slip fabric or any other suitable material.
[0010] Separate sections may be joined by sewing, gluing or by any suitable means. In the present embodiment, the webbing B and the section A are stitched together. The Velcro® loop end of Velcro® is positioned such that the lowest loop layer contacts the limb when the article of the tourniquet is used. Section A is used in this embodiment to increase the friction between the article of the tourniquet and the limb and to provide padding between the webbing B and the limb tissue. Episode A also helps protect the skin and delicate tissue from pinching and bruising that can be associated with the use of the article of the tourniquet 10. Section A also helps the user to apply the article of the tourniquet 10,
the webbing belt B and the webbing belt C can be made of a webbing for diving, and in addition, each section of the base 12 can be lengthened, shortened, narrowed or widened. Additional padding can also be added to base 12 or individually to section A, webbing B or webbing C. You can also use one or
A greater number of adhesive strips to glue one or more of these base sections 12.
In this embodiment, the cap F is positioned and attached on top of the base 12. The cap F keeps the strap H close to the base 12 and as such keeps the strap H in a flat orientation with respect to the base 12. The cap F is a segment of 5,08 cm to 5.08 cm (2 inches to 2 inches) from a nylon webbing for sewage sewn to the base 12 along the two edges or outer sides of the webbing B. The cap F can also be made of a plastic sleeve or a combination of plastic and polypropylene strip a webbing that can be used to increase the stiffness of the cap F. The cap F can also be glued or attached in any suitable way to the base 12. The cap F helps to maintain the shape of the strap H,when the strap H is clamped and also prevents the strap H from tightening against the strap H on the top of the base 12. The cap F maintains the shape of the strap H by acting in conjunction with the base 12 acting as a stiff sleeve or cover through which the strap H has to pass before contacting limb.
[0013] In this embodiment, the cap F also provides the attachment point for the second locking ring, without interfering with the function of the strap H. The base 12 and the cap F can also be thinner and of lighter material, so that the article of the tourniquet will be more flexible and less voluminous in depending on the user's needs. This reduction in volume may facilitate the application of the article of the tourniquet 10 to the limb in certain situations, but in all embodiments the base 12 and cap F maintain a flat surface on the limb to help prevent the cuff from slipping.
[0014] The clamping system consists of a holder G, a strap H and a clamp D. The handle G is made of 1.27 cm (½11) T016 aluminum class aluminum rods cut to 13.97 cm (5.5 in) long. The handle G is bevelled and transversely cut in the area of the surface at each end of the handle G to facilitate securing the handle G in the locking rings. The G-handle also has a 0.39624 cm x 3.09626 cm (0.156 "X 1.219") opening positioned in the center of the G holder that allows the H-belt to pass. The gap is slightly wider than the H-strap, allowing greater freedom of movement of the G-handle during crimping. the article of the tourniquet 10, as well as facilitating folding and shortening for storage. The G handle can also
The grip G can also be made longer or shorter, made with a larger or smaller diameter or made of a grip. from another suitable material such as nylon, plastic or composite.
[0015] The buckle D is a quick release type buckle that allows the user to quickly release the strap H. The quick release clamp used in the present embodiment is a standard one-inch threaded clamp to receive a 0.635 cm (¼ inch) machine screw. The buckle D may be any other suitable buckle, such as the Fastek 2.54 and 1.27 cm (1 and% inch) buckles, and may also be of a different size and size. The machine screw is screwed into the upper part of the buckle and the head rests on the base of the buckle. During the coupling, the buckle D prevents accidental loosening of the tourniquet if the buckle D is struck or moved during the transfer of the patient. In addition, the attachment bolt E can be used to help prevent the movement of the belt H. In this embodiment, the optional fastening bolt E is positioned at the top of the cap F to allow the user to tighten the bolt on the belt H, further protecting the belt H from unintentional loosening. The attachment bolt E is a socket head 0.635 cm x 1.5875 cm (% "x 5/8") socket head screw, but can be any desired width or length.
[0016] The strap H is made of a 16-point heavy polypropylene webbing belt that has a width of 2.54 cm (1 in) and a length of 116.84 cm (46 in). It can also be made of any suitable size or material. For example, it can range from 1 inch wide to 5.08 and 1.27 cm (2 and% inch) wide. It can also be longer or shorter than 46 inches, and the material it is made of can be a nylon webbing instead of polypropylene. One end of the strap H is guided around the quick release buckle and attached to the base 12. In the present embodiment, the strap H is sewn to the base 12. The free end of the strap H is first guided by the ring K and attached to the base 12.
The loop is designed to provide sufficient slack for turning the grip G to not bind or twist the base 12. As soon as the strap H is positioned to hold the grip G, it is guided over the area above the base 12 and under the cap F, so that the other end remains free to be used by the user to be placed in the quick release closure D to clamp the article of the tourniquet 10. The strap H can also be attached directly to the base 12 with clearance so that the loop passes through the holder G.
[0017] As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the rings K and L are used in the present embodiment to attach the strap H to the base 12, with only one ring being used. The rings are used to secure the H-strap in place when using the article of the tourniquet 10. The rings K and L consist of two acetyl triangular rings 2.54 cm (1 "). The rings may be of any suitable type, such as rings of the type. D or type 0 may also be made to rotate, and may be made of any suitable material, such as steel or aluminum.
[0018] The ring K is attached to the base 12 adjacent to the quick release clamp D. The belt H extends from the quick release bracket D to the ring K, where the strap H is sewn to the base 12. The ring K is then positioned on the upper surface of the strap H and the aid of the webbing section, which is placed above the ring K and sewn to the base 12, the ring K is attached to the strap H. The ring K can not move freely over the length of the strap H, but the ring K can be folded down to facilitate storage. The L ring is positioned on the top surface of the F cap. The L ring is attached to the F cap with 2.54 cm by 5.08 cm (1 in 2 inches) of the 16-point polypropylene webbing belt J with the sides of the webbing belt J sewn to the cap F covering the lower part of the K ring.
[0019] The article of the tourniquet 10 is used in this embodiment with two rings that allow the regulation of article 10 to match
Various leg sizes and shapes, e.g., limbs having conical or non-cylindrical shapes, allow the insertion of either or both ends of the handle G into one or both of the rings K and L to secure the grip G by slipping. In other cases, it may be desirable to use more than two rings to allow more bonding points at which the H-band can be guided, allowing an even more tight fit for most applications. The base 12 may also be widened to provide a larger area of tissue, allowing less pressure to achieve homeostasis.
[0020] Initially, the article of the tourniquet 10 should be broken by applying the article 10 to a hard object and clamping the handle two or three times to loosen the webbing. This fracture makes it easier to use one hand later. Article 10 is stored in a bag or pouch with a strap H running through the buckle D and the securing bolt E slightly loose. To unfold the article of the tourniquet 10 in a situation where one limb is unattractive, the strap H is gripped by an intact hand and the article of the tourniquet 10 is slipped over the damaged limb. The belt H is pulled out as quickly as possible to remove the excess slack in the belt H and to pre-tighten the article 10 around the damaged limb. The handle G is screwed until the bleeding is controlled and then the handle G is clicked in one or both of the rings K and L.
[0021] While the present invention has been illustrated and described by means of specific embodiments and alternatives, it should be understood that numerous changes and modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
