Ear tag and animal
The subject of the invention is an animal ear tag.
Many different types of animal ear tags are known. A popular way to attach these tags to the animal's ear is to use a snap type device that has overlapping coupling elements. The engaging input member is a simple shaft with a head that enters the hole in the surrounding latching engagement element. The shaft with the head and the hole may be formed as part of separate components of the tag or as part of a single element.
An example of the first type of tag is the tag described in the patent (Patent Rep. South Africa No. 72/0600, while the second type of tag is described in British Patent No. 1529 258. Other tags with one or two-piece construction usually have a rigid pin with 2 domes, positioned opposite the hollow and flexible stud found in the tags described in the aforementioned patents.
Tags of this type are usually applied by forcing the roller with the head through the animal's ear and through the hole.
The end of the roller head (usually cone-shaped) pierces or punctures the ear and the hole thus formed is widened by continuing to move the head forward.
this; the type of tags are inconvenient when used for animals such as sheep, goats, etc. It has been found that especially in sheep5 there is a tendency to die off the ear after attaching the tags. This is due to many reasons, such as inadequate hygiene when attaching tags, lack of air circulation around the wound to accelerate wound healing, and irritation of the wound by wool strands, passing from one side of the ear through the wound, where they are trapped in the latch. The latter is especially important when the tag is applied so that the roller with the head passes through the ear from the back. This is the side covered with Wool, so you can not guard against pushing the wool through the wound and further to the hole in the latch on the inside of the ear, where it is tightly caught. Then the fabric clamps on the shaft and thus hinders ventilation. Even if adequate hygienic conditions are provided, ear death also occurs, which indicates that dyingag is caused by a roller tightly shifted through the pierced ear. Even if the wool does not pass through the wound, a small amount of it is clamped in the latch, which holds the tag tightly on the ear. Ograinióza tó30 air circulation around the racial surface.
the buoyancy elements in cross-section as in Figs. 2 "and 4, showing a fourth embodiment of the invention.
The tag of the invention is formed of two components 10 and 11, each of which is made of injected, flexible plastic, such as polyurethane. Elernent 10 has a shaft 12, fitted into the head 13. The end 14 of hard material is pressed together with the head 13. The second component 11 has an opening 15, which is preferably surrounded by a wall 16 with a diameter larger than the opening 15.
According to Fig. 2, the tip 14 has a through hole 17, coaxial with a hole 18 of the shaft 12. The diameter of the hole 17 is smaller than the hole 18, so that an internal projection 19 is formed in the head 13. The hole 17 does not need to pass through the tip entirely. 14, but end blindly, as exemplified in Fig. 4.
A pin P passes through the hole 18 so that its free end contacts the hole 1.7. The P pin has a sharp end, protruding from the tip 14 and the projection in contact with the protrusion 19. For hooking the tag, the pin is inserted into the shaft 12, and through it to the tip 14 a driving force is applied, acting on the protrusion of the pin contacting the projection 19 and end of the pin in contact with the bottom of the hole 17 when it is a blind hole (Fig. 4). The tip 14 has a flange 20 embedded in the head 13. The end of the head 13 is an outer flange 21 of the tip having a protruding annular wall which narrows to form a sharp edge. This annular cutting edge 22 is coaxial with the hole 17 and has a diameter smaller than the largest cross-section of the head, and larger than the diameter of the hole 15 in element 11. The difference in diameter between the opening 15 and the edge 22 may vary depending on the materials used to make the tag components.
Elements 10 and 11 are installed in the appropriate applicator. The point P 'of the pin P extends beyond the tip 14 and acts as a guide for positioning at the initial stage, so that the applicator does not move. After installing the components in the applicator, it is recommended to immerse the whole in a disinfectant. Then the shaft 12 is attached to the ear and the tag is placed in the center. The cutting edge 22 touches the ear, and with the help of the surface of the element 11 surrounding the opening 15 and forming an anvil or thrust washer the cutting edge 22 cuts a piece of tissue, thus forming an opening in the ear, which opening has a diameter slightly larger than the outer diameter of the shaft 12 The head 13, located behind the tip 14, passes through the opening in the ear, then through the opening 15 and finally enters the recess 16 '.
The cut piece of tissue falls out of the tip 14 as soon as it passes through the opening 15 and into the recess 16 '.

It was found that if the animal's ear pierced before1 imposing the przywilszką, then the tendency of the ear is significantly reduced to die. With pre-made sculpting, no strand of wool passes through the wound5 • the jiie is caught by the latch because the wool is trimmed when the ear is punctured. When punching involves creating a clear hole, not a puncture, the roller is not pressed tightly into the ear.10 As a result, there is no wool irritation.
and air can circulate around the wound.
Prior piercing means that two separate operations are required for labeling.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide 15 which can be applied in a single operation, during which the hole is pierced in the ear of the animal simultaneously with the pushing of the tag member through it.
· Animal ear tag, holding 2q an element for attaching it to the ear with an opening and a roller with the head at its free end, which head is put through the ear and inserted into the hole, according to the invention, at the end of the head 25 there is an edge crossing the bottom part of the ear.
The cutting edge can be the end of the head, especially when the tag is made of rigid or substantially rigid 30 material, or it can be the end of a tip made of hard material formed in the head. In the case of solutions with a tip made of hard material, the tag can be made of flexible material from35 (A shaft in the form of a tube whose hole is coaxial with a hole with a smaller diameter in the tip. Thus, a protrusion is formed in the head, with which the protrusion on the pin contacts, it is inserted into the shaft. 40
The cutting edge is shaped as a ring and has a larger diameter than the diameter of the hole made in the fixing element. The diameter of the cutting edge is preferably smaller than the largest cross-sectional diameter of the head.
The intersecting edge can be formed by an annular wall converging to a sharp point. In a second embodiment, the cutting edge may be formed by a recess in the end of the head. In a third embodiment, the head end is a flat surface that lies in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the shaft, and the intersecting edge is the peripheral edge of the flat surface. 55 The subject of the invention is illustrated in the embodiment in the drawing, in which Fig. 1 shows a two-part tag in a side elevational view, Fig. 2 - part of the tag elements in Fig. 1 in cross section, Fig. 3 - 60 of the tag element in cross section as in Fig. 2, but concerning the second embodiment of the invention, FIG. 4 - tags in cross section as in FIGS. 2 and 3 but concerning the third embodiment of the invention, FIG. 5 69

- the same hole punch. The interaction of the relative movement of elements 10 and 11 caused by the aid of the ajiplication device traps the animal's ear I between the cutting edge 22 and the rigid but elaistomeric element 11. Further movement causes the tip to be inserted into the ear tissue and wool, cutting out the aforementioned tissue section, which is embedded with front of the tip 14. As the tip 14 moves further, the tissue section passes through the opening 15 under pressure, so that it begins to widen the opening, facilitating the passage of the larger diameter tip.
{The tissue section forms a barrier between the cutting edge 22 and the material surrounding the composition 15, yes; to prevent unwanted cutting with the edge 22 of this material.
As mentioned above, this is one possible form of the solution. The head 13a of the tag may have the design shown in .fig. 3, wherein the outer end 25 of the head is provided with an integral cutting edge 22 »formed by forming a concave recess 26 at the end 25. The shaft 12» is solid because it is made of a rigid material.
Yet another solution is shown in Fig. 4, where the structure is similar to that shown in Figs. 1 and 2, except that the cutting edge 22b is formed by a hollow cavity 26b in the tip 14 of hard material. In this form of the beer solution, Szka has a blind hole 17b.
Figure 5 shows a fourth solution of the tab, in which the hard tip 14c has a flat surface 27 at the end. The cutting edge is formed by the circumferential edge 22c of the tip. In this solution, the pin P may pass through as shown in Fig. 2, or it may terminate in the slip hole 17c, as shown in Fig. 4. The inseparable whole with the tip 14c is the positioning blade T.
Other configurations of the roller head end than those described herein can also be used and the invention is not strictly limited thereto. The tag is suitable not only for labeling sheep, but also for all other labeled animals. The hole in the animal's ear is punched at the same time as the truss is applied when the latch shaft overlaps the hole that does not tighten it tightly. Allows (this allows air to enter the wound, accelerating its healing.
