Abstract

587745 An apparatus for delivering a flow of breathable gas to a patient, comprising a cannula 2, first and second cannula branches 2a, 2b extending from the cannula 2, the first and second cannula branches 2a, 2b having respective first and second ends 2c, 2d configured to engage the nares of the patient in a non-sealing manner, a frame 3 configured to contact the patient's face and support the first and second ends 2c, 2d in engagement with the patient's nares, and straps 6 provided at respective ends of the frame 3, the straps 6 being configured to engage the patient's ears to maintain the frame in contact with the patient's face.

    WHAT WE CLAIM IS:1. An apparatus for delivering a flow of breathable gas to a patient, comprising: a cannula;first and second cannula branches extending from the cannula, the first and second cannula branches having respective first and second ends configured to engage the nares of the patient in a non-sealing manner;a frame configured to contact the patient’s face and support the first and second ends in engagement with the patient’s nares;and straps provided at respective ends of the frame, the straps being configured to engage the patient’s ears to maintain the frame in contact with the patient’s face.

    An apparatus according to any one of claims 1-3, wherein the frame is configured to engage the patient’s upper lip.

    An apparatus according to any one of claims 1-4, wherein the frame supports the first and second cannula branches so that the first and second cannula branches do not extend over the patient’s ears.

    An apparatus according to any one of claims 1-5, wherein the frame supports the first and second cannula branches so that the first and second cannula branches are outside a vicinity of the patient’s ears.

    An apparatus according to any one of claims 1-6, wherein the frame supports and directs the first and second cannula branches so that sound generated by the flow of JAWS Ref.:504973/60 AF breathable gas through the first and second cannula branches is distanced from the patient’s ears.
