Micro-mechanical system
Abstract
A micromechanical medical application system is constructed in the basic form of a catheter (103) having a distal end for insertion into and manipulation within a body, and a proximal end that allows a user to control the manipulation of the distal end inside the body. A fiber optic cable is disposed within the catheter and has a distal end near the distal end of the catheter, and a proximal end for external connection of laser light energy. A microscope (70) is attached to the distal end of the catheter to provide for gripping or releasing an object within the body. A laser light to mechanical power converter is coupled to receive laser light from the distal end of the fiber optic cable, and coupled to mechanically activate the micrograph.
