Abstract

A radio receiver (40) for receiving an RF signal comprises a receiving circuit (42) for receiving and demodulating the RF signal and a microcomputer (44) coupled to the receiving circuit (42) for switching the receiver circuit (42) at a given time . The radio rotor (40) further comprises an expansion chip (68) coupled to and controlled by the microcomputer (44) to communicate with this for further processing of the RF signal. Communication between the microcomputer (44) and expansion chip (68) occurs at a first rate when the receiving circuitry (42) is turned on and a second speed faster than first rate when the receiving threshold (42) is turned off.
